I'm concerned about the CPU usage from using realtek or USB adapters. I would like to run ESXi on the NUC and run a PFsense VM. Would prefer Intel NICs for that purpose.

And if select both SSD and HDD is the OS in the SSD or HDD?

Not too sure about the first point, but based on my experience with their ThinkPad, even though I opted out of the mechanical drive, the cable and hard disk tray was still provided.

As for OS, I believe it will be installed on the SSD. It is actually more beneficial for them to install OS on the faster drive.

4 cores is plenty for them. And these are not some low power CPU, so I am not concerned. Currently they are using a 2c/4t Haswell computer, and it works very well for them. As for RAM, it can be upgraded if required. But I feel it is sufficient as well since they don't run any intensive workload.

It should manage, but it is maxing out the power supply for sure if the system is under load. I am not too sure how strictly Lenovo configured the CPUs to adhere to the TDP, but most modern CPUs tend to boost whenever there's opportunity, and when its doing so, it will consume more than 35W. For example, a 15W laptop CPU may boost up to 30 to 40+ watts when thermals and power is not a limiting factor.

Its nice, until you realized that Ryzen 4000 APUs are not readily available. So only way is to get it from OEM, which kind of defeats the purpose of having these barebone systems in the retail space. Ryzen 5000 APUs will likely end up in retail, but as to when we will see it, I am not too optimistic looking at the current Ryzen 5000 series availability.

Also I feel given such a small form factor, its more prudent to use a 35W chip max. Having used a Ryzen 5 3400G in a small case with small cooler (which is bigger than this) before, it runs very hot even at stock.

For deskmini you can change TDP option under Advanced > AMD CBS > NBIO Common options > system configuration. has 35W, 45W and default 65W. I just set 35W and it is really quiet

I play my game at 4k resolution, at 35w the fan doesnt sound like a jet anymore. For web browsing, core temp shows below 10w. so not so heart pain if i leave computer on overnight

I think it depends on what you are trying to purchase. When I tried to add the mini PC in, i.e. M75q, the code works. But when you try adding a laptop in there, it tells me the code has expired. Quite odd.

I went for a M75Q Gen 2. Configured it with a Ryzen 3 4350GE, 4+4GB of RAM, 256GB SSD. Its about 595 after discount with 3 years onsite warranty. I was thinking of getting the 4600/4650GE but I actually feel the 65W PSU will not be sufficient even though these are 35W CPUs. There is no option to select a 95W PSU. Perhaps they ran out of stock. Anyway my parents don't game, so the CPU will be more than enough for them.

I feel the date is likely the worst case scenario, and because my parents' computer is still working, so not in a rush to get one as well. Its a very good deal, so I think its worth getting one if you need a system as a HTPC or low power system. You can get the VESA mount and install it behind a monitor and you have a very capable AIO PC.

Very good price considering the 5 years onsite warranty would have cost you at least 100 bucks extra. This is a much better deal than the Aftershock Vision Mini which I have eyeing to replace my parents' Intel Haswell based computer that's at least 5 years old now.
