[SIC] Really good Ryzen mini PC

hwzlite post on SFF somehow reminded me to check my old desktop for HDD and I found I have the following:

1 x WD 500 GB 3.5" 7200 RPM
1 x WD 1 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM
1 x Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB SSD

Should I re-purpose them? If so any reccomendation on a SFF option? (I am assuming no Mini ATX options would fit the above). Thanks in advance.

I need some advice, my over 10 years DIY PC has died and I am now looking at the Mini PC due to future space constraint, specifically the below specs. Appreciate your advice as well as experience with it.

- AMD® Ryzen™ 3 PRO 4350GE Processor (3.50 GHz, up to 4.00 GHz with Max Boost, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 4 MB Cache)
- 8 GB DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 4 GB)
- 256 GB PCIe SSD
- Windows 10 Pro 64

Intended Use: Watching Youtube, movies and concurrently surfing internet or working on MS Office. My old PC when playing movie or youtube will lag or hang when I try to open Office or browser to multi-task. But unlikely I will ever play games with it though.

I would like to know if the planned spec is an overkill at the same time I would like bang for buck. Thanks in advance.

i have 2400G and it can encode videos using amd vce while i play a game and torrent in the background. but I wish it had 6 cores instead. so i suggest u topup $100 more for 6 core.

I think you can DIY, but sadly there is no option to bump up the power supply which seems to be using some proprietory connector. Default is 65W, and the 95W option is not available. So you are pretty much limited by power.

I went for a M75Q Gen 2. Configured it with a Ryzen 3 4350GE, 4+4GB of RAM, 256GB SSD. Its about 595 after discount with 3 years onsite warranty. I was thinking of getting the 4600/4650GE but I actually feel the 65W PSU will not be sufficient even though these are 35W CPUs. There is no option to select a 95W PSU. Perhaps they ran out of stock. Anyway my parents don't game, so the CPU will be more than enough for them.

You are right 65w adapter is cutting real close, only 30w breathing room. wonder why never bundle with 170w like their laptops.

230W is too hard core bro. Haha. That can power a laptop running some decent dedicated GPU. I was only looking for a 95W to 120W max.

I feel 65W should still be enough for a Ryzen 3. But the power brick will run quite hot under load.

Anyway for a complete system including OS, I think the price after discount is just awesome. Beats even the offer from the likes of Aftershock hands down.

I'm just playing it safe, and I don't think my parents need a Ryzen 5 4600/ 4650 kind of processor for their usage. These GE chips are rated with a 35W TDP, so I think you will should have about 30W of power left for the rest of the components. But I know the power usage differs as you move up from R3 to R7, and the TDP is generally pointing to just the base clockspeed. As it boosts, there is a chance it may draw more power momentarily, unless Lenovo locked it strictly at 35W in the BIOs. If there is insufficient power, the CPU may not boost its clockspeed that's all. Nothing should happen since I believe Lenovo would have tested this before pairing it with a 65W power supply.

if your parents play facebook or watch youtube meetv, is quite siong now with chrome on 4 cores and 8gb ram imo.

anyway with warranty, just ask lenovo come down and swap, hopefully in future can get 5 series replacement
