SIM-UOL VS SAA-UOL

just want to add on, that in SIM, during the revision period, we have lecturers from UOL itself coming down to give us revision workshop for the modules that we are taking (dunno cost how much, but its all lumped in our fees, as quoted in SIM website. also one of the few reasons why sim fees more expensive.)

it depends on what modules you choose to study.saa offer the required modules for the accounting,banking,business degree.i will say for my hrm lecturer (irene tay),she is ok.just that you need to read up on your own for some topics before she gives her guidance .some of the good lecturers like alan,teo,dr radha,rajoo are teaching there as well

if i'm nt wrong, they haf recommended reading list, those textbooks can be borrowed from their library. that's what the recept told me the other time.

Can anyone guide me on how to sign up for SAA-UOL? I called SAA once and they refer me to another place for modules exemptions issue. Can't remember whats the web but its govmt related link. The staff told me I need to check with them if im able to be exempted for 1st year (Foundation) as my poly cert is more than 5 yrs ago.. I wish to go for August intake

Hi Throne!!

For UOL programs,their subject guides only provide the framework for tackling the subject.If you are doing foundation units like PBKF (principles of banking & finance),maths 1,stats 1,intro to econs,POA (principles of accounting).I will say the SAA UOL notes is just nice for you to clear them..There are also 2 types of readings,mainly essential (must read) & further (optional but good to read)

Further units like audit,HRM,ISO-ORG (currently taking them),microecons,corporate finance,financial reporting blah blah,better get your "essential reading materials" be it textbooks/journal articles.Some of the subject guides are so thin but the readings is a huge load --> e.g. HRM & audit :x

Yes,you need your relevant documents and check up with RELC whether you will be exempted from your first year if your poly certificate is of either a business,banking or accountancy diploma.After you have the documents "true & certified",you go back to SAA and submit the documents again.Procedures wise,a bit tedious

Do you mean that if I don't get the essential books and rely on the notes I can only get a pass grade? I am aiming for at least a 2nd lower. Are there any local bookstores here that sell those books (essential/further)?

try to get your subject guide asap

chances are ur school's notes won't be as detailed but it really depends

imo, don't buy the textbooks yet. get to know some pple in sch and then if u guys really want to get the books, just buy one and photocopy and split the cost. the more copies you zap, the more discount u'll prob get from the shop

I agree with K|muRa^84.You do not need to get all the textbooks.I shall use HRM 075 as an example because it has a "monster" (huge) reading list.In the essential reading list,it has 5 textbooks for reference.But if you scan through the subject guide chapters and note the readings,some textbooks are being used more than the other.Just get one required textbook

But if you people do need the subject guides link,they can be found here but only for the first few chapters to get an overview (click on the foundation or the further units hyperlink)

At the very best,those notes are complementing instead of relying on them only.If you want to get those readings,i believe the SIM-popular bookshop has those textbooks.I had requested one of my friend in SIM to get the Principles of Banking & Finance textbook from there
If i remember correctly,the Popular branch that sells UOL essential/further readings is at SIM HQ (check the weblink here)

If not,you can opt for the alternative which is online ordering. i use primarily abebooks or Amazon.com which you may get a better deal if you do price comparison for some books.Usually,only for books that are outdated or hard to get in Singapore,then i use this

all i can say was its a pleasant environment to study in, more professional as well. i would recommend saa over sim anytime! =D

if u notice, saa wants us to register with uol ourselves via relc while sim does it for their students. as a result, sim students don't receive the uol study guides as well as their past year exam papers booklet if you notice. you can check it out to reconfirm that as well.

Well,for my case,saa help us to handle this year's exam registration fees so that we don't need to make a trip to RELC and handled the extra exam fees refund this year.Admin procedures wise,still not too bad lah
