Old news. They felt capable for 10G rollout commercially so clean up the 2.5g plans
2.5gbps not even one year, not to mention is not even island wide ready..
so basically they are offering just one 10gbps from now on?

If you notice those 10gbps routers only got 1 or 2 ports.

The world is not ready for 10gbps yet.
Because cost of providing 10Gbps plan and 2.5Gbps plan is the same, since enterprise switches jump from 1Gbps to 10Gbps directly. Also the same NLT cost and same ONT/ONR.

Looks like a hassle for telcos to cap the 10gbps and since not many device can go up to 10gbps.

Data looks so cheap under Simba ..

Should be different ONT.
2.5G plan -- GPON ONT with one 2.5G port

10G plan -- XGS-PON ONT with one 10G port.

I guess the cost difference is not that big now between the two, especially since the ONT/ONRs are from China based vendors like ZTE, FibreHome and Nokia Shanghai. SIMBA may go with even lesser known company to get even lower cost ONT.

Backend equipment and capacities will need to upgrade as well.

Still the government is subsidizing the above-mentioned upgrade.

In the end I think it makes business sense for SIMBA to raise the cost of 2.5Gbps plan to be the same as 10Gbps plan so that eventually all will go to the S$29.99 per month plan, even though some users may not like this change.

Just to highlight that a 10Gbps ONT consume more power as compared to the current ONT. In addition, the 10Gbps routers are also more expensive currently and they consume more power likewise.

I am wondering how much energy/money is wasted if normal home users are using the 10Gbps router. Is it right to entice ignorant users to jump on the 10Gbps wagon without considering all the facts? Not very "green" I think especially coming from IMDA to push for 50% consumer adoption...(I hope I get the facts right)

very good points on the non-green aspect. the consumers will assuage their conscience (if any) by buying these routers with their "green vouchers".

I guess the impact is really minimum compared to the usage of Aircon. Or the data centres.

Data centers with 400Gbps switches: LOL

Or we can go back to 100Mbps, much greener that way.

The key words I am highlighting are home users in case you miss that. Data centre is bobian cos has many business use cases and needs.

You were asking questions. Where is the fact?

ChatGPT generate the following, so for normal user, the 10G port should be used as 1G as normal user doesn't have 10G device yet, so the difference is about 1watt compared to normal router.
Your failure to verify the information before posting indicates that you're more interested in boasting than genuinely caring about environmental concerns.

Ethernet Port TypeOperating SpeedTypical Power Consumption per Port
10GBASE-T10G2 to 5 watts
10GBASE-T5G1.5 to 3 watts
10GBASE-T2.5G1 to 2 watts
10GBASE-T1G1 to 2 watts
1G Ethernet1GLess than 1 watt

Oops... I do not know why you flared up so easily. I highlighted home user as you are talking about data centre which is not relevant Must be a bad day for you today but please don't carry into this forum.

You want me to say sorry.... Oh sorry lor.. Miss or is it Mr?? You say I am boasting... Ok lor... You happy enough already... Why so angry....🙂

By the way, have you learnt about multiplier effect?? Nope? That may explain why.... Use chatGPT must also know how to use with intelligence, don't wholesale copy. Do you know how electricity work and is calculated? What is the definition of watts? Oops, I am boasting again...sorry

You asked question, chatGPT and I answered.
Then your post proved you don't care about the answer anyway.
I know what I know, which is why you won't make me angry.

Actually the pricing is lower now as pointed by @Mach3.2 recently.

But still it is tough for the ISPs to come with any plans below S$20. WC 2.5Gbps plan at S#21.8 (including 9% GST) will likely be the lowest plan in the forseable future.

Original NLT pricing is S$15 per month for typical split ratio of 1:24..

New NLT pricing is S$13.80 per month for typical split ratio of 1:24.

Even with S$13.80 per month pricing, I tend to think it is difficult for the local ISPs to offer anything below S$20 per month.

If self denial brings happiness to you then I am happy for you. Life is too short and I am not bothered by your denial. Have a nice day even though you have awakened from the wrong side of the bed...cos tml is still another nice day... Thanks for labelling me as boastful cos a self denial person will always think that he is always right... Your choice, your life. Over and out to you.

From 1W/Gbps to 0.5W/Gbps

I call that a win

Exactly. lobukong just want to argue for the sake of arguing. If it is faster to transmit you also reduce your power, human being sitting there waiting is also wasting "energy" since we need to consume food to generate energy to do stuff.

The marketing and price anchoring got you already.
If 10gbps=super car, why Simba super car cheaper than other brands normal car? Does it still qualify for a super car?

If you see the ISP comparison thread, the lower latency MR business line looks more like a super car to me. Then the 10gbps plan to me seems more like a truck, it only costs more but not faster. Maybe it'll come in handy if you move house everyday.

The price won't drop because of early adopters, it'll drop when Simba gets enough market share.
I am not on board for 10 gbps, and marketing did not get me. It is just that I understand why it is neccessary to do it. The reason why people cannot maximize their 10 gbps is the lack of local application, currently it is probably the Geforce now that really can push it. If you connect to office that have local end point, that will help too but majority of the people is consuming overseas content that have contention but even with that ISP normally weight in your favour if you are on the higher speed plan, so as more people get on, speed for the rest of the people will degrade until they buy more bandwidth, which may or may not happen.

i feel that right now 10g router and network card is too ex already. 2.5g is the way to go, most new gen motherboard already comes with 2.5g port or able to install wifi6e/7 card, so only need to upgrade the router. i not even sure if wireless can even handle 10g.
