TBH ... Simba quite decent compared to how MR is doing recently. The amount of downtime on MR is one of the main reason why I switched over. Cost is also lower than what MR is charging right now.

BT working, Gaming, video streaming and Xiaomi Cam all working fine for me. Only thing I don't really like is that accessing HWZ page abit slow.
Sure, down time * 4 is the worst. I have both M1 and MR active and now I'm not using MR at all. Just waiting for contract to expire.
What's the BT speed you have?

Not sure about the speed but ytd i downloaded a 4.44Gb file over 20min with my NAS but my NAS only has 1G port.

my small PC also using 1G port, as M1 has public IP, I can port forward to the torrent software port, it can download 4G in 3min?

Thus in this sense, simba may be worse than some 1G plans (or probably 500MBps plans?).
But if it already fulfil all your use cases then it's a good plan for you.

BT also depends on peers. Yup above 5.6GB in 10min is still slower than yours but good enough on my old NAS without doing any port forwarding. Plus I am paying $29.90 which is still cheaper than M1 cheapest plan.

TBH for most users, they would not even feel/see the difference except maybe the cost.

Main issue with right Simba right now is that they didn't at least bundled a router with at least 2.5G port. Typical user will think that just upgrading to 10G they will get faster speed but they did not know that they will need to upgrade their router & their network card/pc to attain those speeds.

Guys who subscribed with MR when they first began also work with Lawrence to sort out all those backend routing issues. Hopefully Simba will improve in the future like the old MR team.

Main issues now for SIMBA, at least from the reports, are the following
1) Stability issue
2) Lack of support
3) Bad connection to Singtel and maybe Starhub. Quite some SG websites and services are hosted on Singtel/Starhub network. Bad routing to China -- but this may only affect some customers.
4) Clear documentation to metion the router to be used. SIMBA does offer Amazon eerom Max 7 at discounter price.
5) No digital voice -- only affected some users. May not be an issue for many users.
6) CGNAT without Static IPv4 add-on. SIMBA 10Gbps has native IPv6 which may help but it may still be an issue for those want to have a public IPv4 address. This may not affect majority of the users, but

#1 and #2 are the main problems I can not recommend SIMBA to average users.

Power users know their use cases well -- so it is usually not an issue to go with their choice of ISPs. But I would not recommend power users to go for SIMBA either because of #3 and #6.

Currently there is no use case for more than 1G except for downloading. So people buy more expensive router in the end still gain no benefit. 1G decent router would be more worth it

So what low cost (around S$30) plan will I recommend now for new sign-up?

1) Average users who need a wireless router to get started and do not mind using ONR.

Starhub special 5Gbps offer with Nokia XS-2426X-A ONR
(10G capable with one 10G LAN port, with AX6000 WiFi, cannot change to ONT) and one Nokia Beacon 2 to form a mesh

2) For power users who want to use their own router and want ONT

Starhub special 5Gbps offer with ONT -- Not so sure if the link will be valid for long.

https://www.starhub.com/personal/st...speed-5gbps-ont-at-2955_ultraspeed-5gbps.html

Previously there was no successful report of installation done with the above link. Today we have the first confirmation that Starhub does honor the above link and installed the ONT to the user who use the link to subscribe to Starhub 5Gbps plan with ONT.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...-plan-launched.7024290/page-47#post-153960394
Just to share, I used the ONT link shared here:

https://www.starhub.com/personal/st...speed-5gbps-ont-at-2955_ultraspeed-5gbps.html

The StarHub person just came and installed the Nokia ONT and gave free Nokia Beacon 2. He asked me a few times if I want the ONR instead as he said the beacon 2 cannot support the 5Gbps. I say it’s ok, I’ll use back my current mesh (which is slow Deco M5) but will upgrade next time.

This is the follow-up post to previous comaprisons of SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan vs WC 2.5Gbps vs Singtel 2Gbps/2.5Gbps plan.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...nd-whizcomm-boradband.6984714/#post-150697339

Comparison of SIMBA 10Gbps plan, WC 10Gbps plan and Starhub 5Gbps special offer, for average users who do not mind using ONR

Power users do not like ONR. But ONR provides cheap setup to achieve 10Gbps.
And at least WC 10Gbps and Starhub 5Gbps plan will be more stable than SIMBA 10Gbps as of now.

For power users, better go with VQ 10Gbps (ONT) and Starhub 5Gbps/10Gbps plan with ONT option.

For average users, Starhub 5Gbps special offer has the best value now.

1) SIMBA 10Gbps --> S$29.99 per 30 days, using CGNAT (no public IPv4 address), IPv6 supported.

The user needs to get his own wireless router. 10G capable wireless router is not cheap. If the user opts to use 2.5G capable main wireless router, the plan becomes 2.5Gbps. If the user opts to use 1G capable main wireless router, the plan becomes 1Gbps.

2) WC 10Gbps --> S$29.99 per month, 10G capable ONR provided, not using CGNAT (with public IPv4 address). No support of IPv6

The ONR is the main router for the home network. The user needs to get his own wireless router. 10G capable wireless router is not cheap. But the user can reuse his own 1G or 2.5G wireless router. It is still possble to use one 10G wired device since the ONR has one 10G LAN port. WC alsp provides another option with HB810 bundle but that is totally not worth it at S$58.90 per month.
https://whizcomms.com.sg/10gbps-broadband/

3) Starhub 5Gbps special offer with Nokia XS-2426X-A all-in-one ONR --> S$29.55 per month. Not using CGNAT, with public IPv4. IPv6 is also supported.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/st...speed-5gbps-onr-at-2955_ultraspeed-5gbps.html
xDaoM71.png

The user does not need to buy his own router to enjoy 10Gbps. And it includes one Nokia Beacon 2 which can be used as a mesh node (1Gbps capable only mesh node). It is also cheap to get second Nokia Beacon if more mesh nodes are needed.

I am not saying the Nokia Beacon 2 or even the Nokia XS-2426X-A is good, it is just that this is the cheapest way to get the user started.

Not so sure what you mean here.

The limitation comes from XGS-PON technology and it is the same for all other ISPs' 10Gbps plan, the best you can get is about 8.3Gbps based on all the test results here in this forum.

As for the practical limit --> there are different numbers over the internet, some say 8.5Gbps is the practical limit for XGS-PON technology.

If you need to get true 10Gbps, then the ISP needs to use 25GPON or 50GPON technlogy. HK and mainland China ISPs are trying the 50GPON technology. HK ISPs have come out 25Gbps plan and 50Gbps plan but the price is still high. Mainland China ISPs are trying out 50GPON technology to provide 10Gbps trials.

the performance for 1 and 5gbps plan r quite close to the limit, but 10gbps plan is only 8.5gbps max, that's what i mean. the actual speed to theoretical speed ratio is lowest for the 10gbps.

1gbps plan: 0.975
5gbps plan: 0.957
10gbps plan: 0.823

1gbps plan: 0.975
5gbps plan: 0.957
10gbps plan: 0.823

As mentioned, you can not say the limit of 10Gbps XGS-PON based plans as 10Gbps. Rather you have to use 8.5Gbps as the max.

Then the ratio for 10Gbps will be higher at 0.894 to 0.968.

1Gbps plan: 0.97 to 0.975 [I actually have doubts for Starhub's claim of this number, Singtel's number makes more sense to me]
5Gbps plan: 0.823 to. 0.957
10Gbps plan: 0.894 to 0.968.

I understand that ISPs do not mention this limitation of XGS-PON technology, but you can refer to the max speed published by ST/SH/MR for 10Gbps plan.

I dun agree. The telcos r advertising 10gbps plan. No one with technical knowledge will know it peeks at much less than 10gbps. To a layman consumer, they expect 10gbps or close.

This is one of those technicalities that doesn't favour us consumers. If you include the PON frames, the line rate indeed is 10Gbps, but once you strip those out you're left with around 8.2Gbps on a good day.

Side track a bit.

Realized quite a few with HWZ insider tag on this page.

Maybe should get one for myself to upgrade status too.... Looks quite satki. :D
