I top up $50 the wallet in aug 2020 (yes 2 years ago) and i didnt track that $50 after a few months. Separately, tpg has been deducting from my dbs cc monthly these 2 mths.

strangely, while i proceed to terminate tpg late last mth, they told me that the $50 is deducted monthly since aug 2020.

quite pita to email to the cso. After many emails, they say they will investigate. They reply at 12midnight to 3am. Can’t reconcile what third world country operates at that time. Mexico? Quite sad they cannot have a phone call to reconcile with me

Not sure what you are trying the say the problem is here...

The way TPG/SIMBA works is that they always deduct from the monthly subscription from the wallet first. If the wallet is not sufficient to cover the subscription, then they will deduct from the linked card. It's a little bit annoying that it works this way, since you also need a positive wallet balance to 'pay' for additions (like additional SMS or roaming data), which somehow cannot be deducted from the linked credit card... BTW, this is true whether you have a 'prepaid' or 'postpaid' line. In a way, it can work to your advantage since you could just top up before the month's end using Shopee & save a $1 on the subscription.

So, the $50 you had in the wallet would have paid for your Sep 2020 to Jan 2021 subscriptions & your card would only be deducted for the Feb 2021 subscription onward (assuming you did not pay for additions).

Additional commentary by another website about why peering is a huge problem:
https://www.techgoondu.com/2015/03/...h-approach-to-local-peering-in-singapore/?amp

The broadband/internet scene has changed a lot since then. SingNet and StarHub now host much fewer websites as compared to then, with Akamai, Fastly and other CDNs doing most of the work, and cloud providers like GCP, Azure and AWS picking up most of the slack.

Anyway, TPG is peered on SGIX, which gives it great access to most websites, including the likes of Google, Facebook, Netflix, and even Zoom, Valve and Telegram. The problem is that SingTel themselves aren't on any exchange in Singapore, which is really greedy on their part.

u got the problem tho. i had also thought that they will deduct my monthly bill from my WALLET first, before cc.

however, it seems like it deducts from both my wallet AND my cc for a good few months

I see what you mean.

Have you checked your credit card statement from Aug 2020, just to be sure they did deduct?

FWIW, I have maintained a $20-$30 balance in my wallet since I started the line & not once has TPG deducted from the linked credit card.

Yes SingTel wants to people to peer to their own STIX, but charge high amounts. This is why smaller players have no choice but to reroute if need to.

He trying to save every cents and believe if not spoil dont change it. :D
If it cannot run current apps, take it as spoilt.

And in future, buy phones that promise software upgrades. Google does 3-4 years, as do some other manufacturers. Many of the Chinese ones don't promise upgrades anymore except for their highest end (ie, highest priced) handsets, or at most 1 if you're lucky. That's why they charge so cheaply since you can take it that the OS you get with the phone is highly likely the major OS version for the entire phone's life.

Reason for this is simple: they cannot support developing software for so many handsets as long as they keep flooding the market. Software developers have no time to fix bugs and support tens to hundreds of different phone models, so they focus only on the more profitable ones.

Officially no. And if you unlock your bootloader to install unofficial variants, you'll have to do your own support and workaround apps that check for rooted phones (including banking and other security dependent apps like our own government's Singpass et al).

Most don't want to deal with that hassle. Since only the vendor's official software comes fully locked and allows for that level of security, then it's up to the user.

As for Android and customising, people refer to the UI elements, and not so much hacking the actual OS. ;) Anything above is an assumption on the user's part. It has been done, but installing 3rd party ROMs is not the norm.
