TPG seems to take longer to load for me too. I also suspect it is due to the higher ping. oh well, just have to endure till they improve their network infrastructure,

ok, will try..
Here's a timeline of my experience porting in to TPG 50GB SIM Only Plan from a Singtel postpaid plan without contract.

Tuesday morning
- signed up and paid $10 for the TPG plan on the website (https://www.tpgmobile.sg/home)
- opted for free delivery of TPG SIM card (available for sign-ups that use Singpass)
- received email confirmation from TPG that the SIM card would be delivered in 3 working days

Friday afternoon
- received the TPG SIM card in mailbox
Friday night
- activated the TPG SIM card online (https://bit.ly/activate-sim-card) to initiate the port-in process
- received email notification from TPG that the port-in process would be completed within 1 working day

Sunday morning (1st day on the TPG Plan)
- received email and SMS notifications from TPG that the port-in was successful

I signed up for the mobile plan intending to use it on a OnePlus 3T model A3010 {with prior knowledge that it was not a supported device).

This phone (I believe) is able to connect to some variant of 4G LTE network.

Within TPG's FAQs it is stated that:

"................. SIMBA mobile network is built using the 4G technology which means voice calls can only be made using VoLTE capable handsets supported by our network.
There are many handsets in the market that are 4G capable but they may not be VoLTE capable. Currently, VoLTE capable handsets supported by our network are listed here.
We encourage customers with handsets not listed to download TPG 4G Voice to make and receive calls on their SIMBA mobile number. ......... "

Anyway upon signing up online, I received a confirmnatory email from TPG with 2 attachments (one a barcode .png and another a pdf file).

Within this pdf file, TPG states that:

".......... Customers can enjoy full unthrottled 4G speeds when they use a 4G-ready smartphone/device supporting LTE Band 40 - 2300MHz and/or Band 8 - 900 MHz .........."

TPG confirmed via email that my number port in was successful and my SIM only plan was activated within 48 hrs upon signup.

I have not installed the TPG 4G Voice app yet to see if the 'mobile data' part of my SIM plan can work.

TPG's SIM card is currently the only card in my phone (in slot 1).

Only SMS is working on my phone at the moment!

Extract of current SIM Status (sim slot 1) on my phone:

Network - TPG ; Phone number on SIM - Unknown ; Mobile network state - Disconnected ;
Service status - In service ; Mobile voice network type - 4G ; Mobile data network type - 4G ;
EID - Unknown

Am I having a configuration or hardware compatibility problem?

Short of buying a new phone is there any way to get at least the 'mobile data' part of my plan working (ie I'm prepared to compromise on the voice call part)?

Any help would be most appreciated.

If you can receive SMS, you can try to set the APN to "TPG".

After that try to enable mobile data to see if it works.
If it works, you can try and see if your phone has the VoLTE toggle function.
If yes, create a new APN called "ims" and set the APN type to "ims".
After that you can try and see if VoLTE works.
If VoLTE doesn't work, you need to download the TPG Voice App so that you can make voice call.

If I walk in to register at the shop and get the sim card on the spot, do I still need to go online and activate the sim? Or just wait till the next day, put in the sim card and see if it works?

If you get a new number, it'll be activated on the spot.

If you port in, you'll receive the email stating the estimated port in date, and after port in successful, will receive yet another email telling you the service is activated.

For part in, your TPG SIM card is left unactivated (can't be use) until the port in is completed.

Reach home then found out SIM card No network (unable to connect to network)

Than sound out the SIM card will only be activated upon port in. (a little different with the 3 main telco where they give u a temp number)

I walked in to port in my pp number a few months ago. They didn't ask for my email. Also didn't ask if I want a postpaid or a prepaid plan. Just gave me a sim card after copying my IC details. I couldn't port in coz my pp number no value. I can't even remember if I have paid $10 when I walked in back then.

Eventually what happened next?

If VoLTE doesn't work, you need to download the TPG Voice App so that you can make voice call.

“If you can receive SMS, you can try to set the APN to "TPG".”

There was a cautionary message ‘the existing APN settings cannot be changed by the user’ at the main APNs screen’.
Proceeded anyway and clicked + at the top right of the screen.
APN settings changed to:
Name: TPG
APN: TPG
APN protocol: IPv4/Ipv6
APN roaming protocol: Ipv4/Ipv6
Everything else (some parameters are populated & others not set) left unchanged.
(it is important to save the above changes).

“After that try to enable mobile data to see if it works.”

Mobile data enabled and successfully connected to internet.
At this juncture, voice calls still do not work.

“If it works, you can try and see if your phone has the VoLTE toggle function.

There is no VoLTE toggle function on my phone

“If VoLTE doesn't work, you need to download the TPG Voice App so that you can make voice call.”

Downloaded the TPG Voice app (SIMBA Voice app) and registered the app using mobile data internet connection.
Both the SIMBA Voice app and a continuous internet connection (via either wireless or mobile data) were enabled and left running in the background.
Very high quality voice calls could then be successfully made and received.

Conclusion and comments:

Once the required Access Point Names (APNs) values are entered into the phone settings and the SIMBA Voice app installed and registered, the OnePlus 3T (model A3010) is able to work very well with the SIMBA Sim-only plans. Both the app and an internet connection must be running in the background all the time.
Most of the above information is in a user guide accessible via scanning a QR code at the back of the SIMBA sim card.
Many thanks to forum senior member ‘ guyz92’ for pointing me in the right direction.

For TPG after 1 month if you don't want to use anymore, no need to terminate right? They won't bill you right?

Not sure what's so confusing, have you previously sign up any lines with MVNOs?

If you linked a credit card to the account, there will be auto deduction after every 30 days; each payment gives one 30 days of service. For people who did not want to link their credit card, can choose to top up their wallet so deduction can be make after each 30 days cycle.

Unlike the 3 main telcos which send subscriber an invoice each month for the previous month service, all MVNO and Simba pre-charged for service to be rendered at the beginning of cycle.
I top up $50 the wallet in aug 2020 (yes 2 years ago) and i didnt track that $50 after a few months. Separately, tpg has been deducting from my dbs cc monthly these 2 mths.

strangely, while i proceed to terminate tpg late last mth, they told me that the $50 is deducted monthly since aug 2020.

quite pita to email to the cso. After many emails, they say they will investigate. They reply at 12midnight to 3am. Can’t reconcile what third world country operates at that time. Mexico? Quite sad they cannot have a phone call to reconcile with me

If it's credit/debit card payment option, it'll auto deduct from the card recurringly.

If cash payment, will go into dormant mode, if no payment by then, will cancel.
