virtually no connection in Australia

cannot receive otp as well
No reception, cannot even connect to local roaming partner or no data? The first 2 cases are unlikely and should be solved after reboot or on/off airplane mode.
I faced a problem 6 months back while I was there, I cannot use data at first, after deleting the APN and creating a fresh one it worked. I guess there are some changes in APN profile over the years.

Wanted to share my porting over experience from CL to Simba, which left me quite impressive.

29 March, evening - made SIMBA order
30 March, 1730 - collected SIM from Kaki Bukit
30 March, 23:30 - no network on old SIM (CL)
31 March, 01:10 - everything ported over to SIMBA

Was told it took 1-2 working days to port over but it only took less than 8 hours!

IMHO.
Generally now is quite fast. Port out is the same.
I don't even need to make order, I just go to the other provider, get a new SIM card and all is done by next day morning. Don't even need to inform TPG of porting out.

IMHO .... same most telco if no porting issues :D MYR is fastest 11pm the line is already port over

With many of us performing multiple portings, it will certainly provide great and beneficial experiences to the backend technical staff, thus deriving with efficient and faster porting support.
