Data roaming.

And with VoLTE-enabled phones?
Voice app is still availble from 3rd Parties websites. Some1 mentioned that Simba said IMDA wanted them to remove the app. From Simba perspective, there is absolutely no advantage in doing so. So I think as long as you can get hold of the app, you can still enjoy this service until IMDA make it mandatory for Simba to do so.

Voice app
2 or 3 days ago, i dropped in to their service centre (orchard) to ask same question. the guy said they were instructed by IMDA to remove it to encourage people to switch to 4g phones. Then added very dismissively, "anyway now dun need, since everyone got 4G or 5G phone".

he could not understand that the telco makes a decision whether to support the phone or not. VoLTE is a necessary but insufficient pre-requisite, if a telco does not support it, it does not mean the phone is not VoLTE capable.

i pointed out it had nothing to do with 4G, since it is a point-to-point VOIP app, and can even work when phone does not have the simba SIM inside it. he just shrugged and said, "Just buy a new phone."

@ibrahim Noorali for now you can download the app from simba website. search for "voice app"

to me, this removes 1 of the 2 reasons to keep my simba line (the other reason is backup roaming SIM).
(for me, local use, the coverage and speed is really cui, so that is a huge negative)

the app is necessary for countries which may not support my phone.
whether it is true or not that IMDA asked them to remove it, i dunno and can't prove it either way.
anyway, will keep a local copy of the APK in case i factory reset my phone in future.

Where to Download...
yep, still in apple app store, but removed in google playstore.

So Android users need to remote download from the Simba website

Simba has a list of compatible phones in their faq. Most modern phones should be volte enabled.
Yes I have seen it, but it is for the local network.

Roaming is dependent on the roaming partners.
As per what you said the level of VoLTE compatibility for VoLTE enabled phones is entirely set by their roaming partners.

Although they have the voice app to eliminate the compatibility issues, but no longer.

Normal for Simba. I ported my biz line to Simba cause see some users here say very good. Same location Simba 5G 20mbps while my eight 4G hits 120mbps. Peak hour can forget about Simba especially underground MRT lines either airplane mode of death or 0.01mbps while my eight still can surf net. Mainly keeping for overseas data roaming and calls.
Yes I find that the connection speed a bit slower than before but I'm typing this now on a train heading towards Chinese Gardens... there was a dead zone after Clementi Station and Jurong Point... particularly the point where the track runs over the Ulu Pandan Canal... totally no signal, not even voice call coverage... but it's been ok at stations and even between stations... even at Jurong East just now, it's usually horrendously crowded I still got signal to surf the net... I don't stream videos or audio files so I can't speak for that experience though... underground from Havelock MRT to Tiong Bahru also ok... seems like every now and then I have to restart the phone...

What is the VoiceApp to ensure compatibility? Meaning if the LTE bands are not supported by the roaming partner for certain phones? Or by the SIM card SIMBA uses?

In a nutshell, not all VoLTE phones are created equally. The voice app may or may not add a layer of compatibility, but most likely it can achieve the task, since non-VoLTE phones can register and make outgoing calls with this app.

Maybe can just toggle on and off airplane mode? Ya I find that Simba has quite a lot of deadzones, so I rely on eight for data mostly..Simba for calls and data roam, or 5G data when I'm outdoor and has good speeds

Every telco is the same in that case. So why not ask whether Singtel or m1 roaming partners have volte or not? Dunno what is ur goal asking such questions.

why dun u ask Simba? Have u tried them? We r not Simba, we can only answer what we know.

My understanding is that SIMBA uses VOLTE exclusively in Singapore... so for it's SIM to work overseas, then it makes sense that the roaming partners should use VOLTE or at least offer it where available... and it also means that our phones must be VOLTE compatible, no?

Checkyrmed said that not all phones' VOLTE are created equal... not sure what he means but I presume the flagships and mid-range models that are globally available from established international brands should be fine? Like Samsung S, A & Z series? Apple iPhones? Google phones? Maybe it's the China branded phones which have iffy VOLTE implementation on certain phones, and maybe grey imports for China-only phones?

It is a common knowledge that for the same "model" flagship phones launched by Samsung or Apple, they do have different VoLTE specs coming from the various regions. Some may even have different chipsets such as Exynos vs Snapdragon, single or dual SIMs versions. The bands supported by the VoLTE are also different.

Simba started with only 4g infrastructure. It does not have 3g. So volte is a must. most phones should work. I do not know why some phones do not work. Maybe its the phone did not fully implement volte standards?

The roaming partners are also major telcos in their own country. Volte has been around for ages, so they should also support volte. Else simba won't appoint them as roaming partners knowing they (simba) themselves support volte only, so their partners should also support.

Just signed a new Simba line. Installed whatsapp and all hell broke loose. 100+ groups and communities were loaded. Suspect that Simba recycled the number. Now I hv to exit and delete these groups one by one. Is there a better way?

Someone did mention here that numbers are all recycled these days, though I think maybe not so much the $xxx/$0000 ones.
