Hi Guys, Both my kids are on Simba $10 plan. I was thinking of moving them to the $12 7GB roaming plan.
I need some honest feedback if the roaming in Japan is working fine and with which local telco partner as we are heading to Hokkaido in Dec.

Can ask you guys, what is your reason for sticking with SIMBA, not porting to other $10 plans like VIVIFI or ZYM, or eight for $8?

For average download speeds, VIVIFI or eight are surely faster.

If for global roaming, these all provide reasonable amount of MY TH ID data, and for countries outside SEA region, I find always cheaper to just get eSIM on shopee or taobao (about $10 for 10GB).

So why still choose SIMBA?
For me. The readily global roaming data is convinient! Just a $2 extra per month or a mere $24 per year (the $12/7GB roaming data plan) compared to those $10 plans in which they are restricted to those few countries only.

On the side note as you can read! Simba speed and coverage have improved significantly over time especially so from Q3 of 2024!

Used it twice in Japan in 2023. Can't remember which local telco partner, but Simba works fine in Sapporo.

simba is one of the main telcos with its own network of equipment. the others u quoted r mvno using the other 3 telcos infrastructure. as long as one is happy with the speed and reliability of the network, why need to change?

another question, why use android or iphone when the other one is better or the same? did u ask urself? same answer what...

Some reasons that people stay put with simba rather than changing to likes of zym, eight or vivifi.

- international roaming whereas others have limited countries. Most separate Asia, apac and Asean with international. Simba is over 64 countries in international roaming.
- it's excess roaming charges is fair, at $0.40/100MB or $4/GB. It does not charge a full block of $4. So if you exceed by 100MB, your wallet balance will only deduct $0.40.
- unlimited local phone calls
- call back singapore for free when overseas
- top up wallet balance with shopee, can offset using your shopee coins, making your monthly sub cheaper.
- esim
- as its international data roaming, I don't need to go shop around for esim data on shopee.

another reason is when you are in overseas, you can receive calls from Spore via the Simba app.

This is very useful in case your bank, insurance agent, colleagues, or even relatives want to look for you urgently and they cant call you via whatsapp.

Simba has network priority advantage over other mvno. Can stay connected when going certain places like jurong east interchange, or watch concert at stadium. For singtel need to buy $5 express pass

Anyone using simba tried to transfer eSIM from iPhone 15 to new 16 instead of going down to simba service centre?
just realised from iPhone 15, eSIM can be transferred from previous iPhone to new iPhone.
Believe this function is telco dependent and is blocked off, so not working IIRC when I last tried and researched.

I believe you are referring to esim quick transfer, it is available since ios 16 but require carrier support :
https://support.apple.com/en-us/118669

Based on apple, no carrier in SG support it yet :
https://support.apple.com/en-us/101569

Not sure is really no support in SG yet or their KB not up to date.
But it does looks like none of the traffic light telco mentioned this feature on their website.
Unlikely that SG carrier will support this money tree anytime soon unless forced by regulators.

So when porting out to M1 again?
In fact, it is happening now for my primary line. :D

Of cause! I cannot put my money in one basket.

This current SIMBA (Secondary line) will be switching to $10 ZYM as a backup after the SIMBA 30 days minimum stay.

My primary line should be ported over from Maxx to SIMBA in the next day or 2. :)

Up. This is very true for network priority. Few years back when I was at Padang for NDP, I remember Simba mentioned they deployed more network repeaters around padang area.

My other phone back then was using m1 network. The m1 network was totally unable to send WhatsApp message.

On the other hand on my simba line, I was able to stream my F1 race live while watching NDP. I tried speed test was easily over 80mbps in such a crowded area.

So ya, during such big events, simba added network repeaters and available to all. No need add on what priority pass.

Yup. I did that, pick up calls and it's free. That's the best thing.
