Option 5 is the new listed option for the SMS 1218

Thank you for using SIMBA.

Reply 1, for the nearest SIMBA shops near you

Reply 2, to check your account balance

Reply 4, to block/unblock International Incoming Calls

Reply 5, to check your SIM is a 5G Ultra SIM
What input did you send to 1218 to get this listing?

For the above, I sent 5G to 1218. And got the direct reply.

Ok, nobody will sms simba for no reasons. So who will know there is a "5" to check 5G Ultra. And what is 5G Ultra? Why should I change?

I will wait and see if simba will send out notice about it. They already don't have enough 5G bandwidth already.

SIMBA Notice: SMS 5G to 1218 to check if your SIM is 5G Ultra ready. For FREE upgrade, visit any SIMBA Service Centre (simba.sg/collect) for your SIM swap. Enjoy exclusive Samsung 5G deals too. Thank you.

Went to do the swap today at SIMBA Somerset. Asked around their staff (Queue number guy and counter staff) why need to swap? My SIM Card is from December 2025 still quite new.

No one had any idea the real reason for the swap lol. I was only told there was a new backend system but that doesn't make sense for a SIM Swap.

There is speculation that this 5G ultra is 5G SA, if that is true, this means changing 4G Sim to 5G Sim, which make sense, Singtel MVNO also had such an exercise end of last year. My previous 2024 Sim certainly appears to be a 4G sim.

What do you need to bring to do the swap? Just bring the current Sim card? Need to bring ic etc? In case I'm going to help my folks exchange as well.

Definitely need to bring NRIC coz they rightfully need to do verification.

I brought my physical NRIC but they only verified last 4 digits of my NRIC.

The new SIM Card will be issued unactivated. You will get a SMS (sent to your old SIM Card) with a link to activate it yourself. I requested them to activate it on the spot using their system (since I have my NRIC Card anyway). Apparently they cannot activate the new SIM card even if SIMBA staff wanted to, due to the new backend system. The counter staff were kind enough to guide me through the activation process, as long as you have Singpass with you, it's a one minute process to activate it. Old SIM on the phone was disabled immediately (no service within a minute).

So the service center staff just issue new sim card without having to handover the old sim card?

The activation process requires old sim card in phone?

That time mid of May, my sim card suddenly spoil around 6pm, suddenly everything (data and call) cannot use... then the next day really cannot use for work if not in office... can only rely on wifi in office ... whatapps (wifi) for calls... contact simba (email) ask me can go vivo (before 7pm) but went there cannot change sim card, then ask me go orchard central (before 9pm) do... issue new Sim card activated on the spot... really waste my time but bo choice... mayb then already got the 5g ultra which i didnt know..

I use like no different leh
