@Cumzilla

If it is really confirmed that Singtel Airties 4960R can not work in AP mode, you have two options. I will recommend Option 1 as there is no guarantee that Singtel TV box will work for Option 2 now that we know Airties 4960R is weird.

The user guide does not mention anything related to Singtel TV box either.
https://www.singtel.com/content/dam...ties4960/AirTies 4960R Installation Guide.pdf
But it is reported that the following configuration works fine.
ONT -- Airties AIR 4960R (router mode, with built-in Singtel VLAN profile) -- Singtel TV Box
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/singtel-1-gbps-fibre.5930834/post-143898041
1) Forget about it and sell it away. the following configuration should still work. Then buy a proper router like TP-Link Archer AX72 (AX5400) and set it up as an wireless AP. It will have better Wifi performance than the Singtel issued routers.
Singtel ONT -- Singtel Mesh Router in DB box -- Singtel AC Plus (disable WiFi) + Singtel TV Box in TV console area
Singtel AC Plus -- TP-Link Archer AX72 in wireless AP mode to provide wireless access

2) If you really want to use the Airties 4960R, try the following configuration. It may or may not work.

Singtel ONT -- Airties 4960R in DB box -- TP-Link TL-SG105 switch (below S$30) in DB box
Console area LAN port -- Singtel Mesh Router + Singtel TV Box in TV console area

To be honest, I tend to think that the Airties 4960R should automatically work in AP mode, just like other Singtel issued router like Singtel AC Plus, AC Elite and SIngtel Mesh Router.

The guide clearly says you can connect Airties 4960R to the Singtel ONR. I have edited my post. But it could be the user guide is also wrong...

Anyway, I think for @Cumzilla, no point trying any more, just give up on the Airties 4960R and get a cheap proper router like TP-Link Archer AX72.

@Singtel

Please help to confirm whether Airties 4960R can work with Singtel ONR or not? The installation guide says that it can work with Singtel ONR.

Please help to confirm whether the following configurations will work or not. Thanks a lot in advance.

1) For internet only
Singtel ONT -- Airties 4960R (confirmed to work)
Singtel ONR -- Airties 4960R ?
Singtel ONT -- Singtel Mesh Router -- Airties 4960R ?

2) For internet and Singtel TV box
Singtel ONT -- Airties 4960R -- Singtel TV box (confirmed to work)
Singtel ONR -- Airties 4960R -- Singtel TV box ?
Singtel ONT -- Singtel Mesh Router -- Airties 4960R -- Singtel TV Box ?

Nice one. To me this is already a very good offer.

Now we have one user reported the following two types of offers. (Updated with feedbacks).

1) 8 month free (effective price S$50.37 x 16/24 = S$33.58 per month), with no free routers.
This looks like to be a very special targetted offer for existing users and usually you will not get it.

2) 7 month free (effective price S$53.40 x 17/24 = S$37.825 per month) Singtel 1Gbps Enhanced Plan recontract offer, with free Wifi 6 router or mesh node

These two offers are both very good and better than the recently reported S$40.40 per month offer with free Wifi 6 router or mesh node. Personally I think Option 1 is slightly better even without the free router as the free router give is lousy.

In fact these offers are even better than last years' offers with Wifi 5 router or mesh node (S$37.90 per month with special targetted offer, or S$39.90 per month).

This Singtel ah.. kns. Been with them since 56k modem dialup (anyone remember bronze, silver, Gold=35hrs dialup). I really don't know what it takes to become "targeted" so I just sent them screenshot of the posts and asked for the 8 month free.

It is even worse for Airties 4960R if it is confirmed that it can not be used in AP mode and can only be connected to Singtel ONT as a router.

For other routers you have two options to go with the ONR.
1) To set up in AP mode, this will avoid Double NAT issues. Singtel AC Plus, AC Elite and Singtel Mesh Extender will work automatically as an AP when connected to Singtel ONR or other routers. For normal Asus/Netgear/TP-Link/Linksys/D-Link/etc router you can set up the router in AP mode.

Even for older router like Singtel issued Aztech routers which do not have proper AP mode, you can set up manually AP mode by disable DHCP, setting up static IP address and then connect the LAN (not WAN) port to the main router's LAN port. Airties 490R has only one LAN port which makes this difficult and I am not so sure if it has the option to disable DHCP.

Do you see an option to disable DHCP in the Airties 4960R?

2) set up the touter in router mode and live with Double NAT. However, Airties 4960R has built-in Singtel VLAN which makes this not working either.
There is an option to disable DHCP, I tried disabling it and I thought it will work after that by connecting the main router's LAN to the WAN port on the Airties 4960R, but it didn't. Actually as per u suggested, I tried connecting to the LAN of the main router to the LAN on the Airties 4960R earlier even before disabling DHCP, it works, but then I cannot connect to my Singtel TV box anymore. The issue is not for it to work as an AP, is that I am unable to connect to the Singtel box at my TV console Lan point

I dunno if the technical officer from whatsapp is really technical in his knowledge whether airties 4960R cannot works as AP. If when I connect to the LAN of main router to LAN of the airties, and I got internet (even though the led on the router still showing bright red) so it supposes to work as an AP correct?

Is there a need to disable Wifi on the AC plus? my current configuration I still can connect to Wifi from the AC Plus and also connect to my SIngtel TV box at the same time without any issue. Same for my MBR's TP Link router AC1900, no issues having wifi and at the same time connect to my 2nd SIngtel TV box, Starhub white box and smart tv without issues.

Yes, I am going for option 2 at this moment, this was after I had tried Singtel ONT -- Airties 4960R in DB box -- AC Plus -- Singtel TV box at TV console with no issues. The speed I tested above 300mbps, very weird I was getting below 100mbps yesterday, dunno if singtel did anything over at their end after I feedback to them the issue....Already placed order for the TP-Link TL-SG105 switch....

1) Internet only 1st configuration - works, 2nd - no idea, 3rd - Lan of Singtel Mesh Router to Lan of Airties works

2) for ONR - no idea, for 1st configuration, did not try direct to Singtel TV box (should probably works), 3rd one cannot work (need to change the setting? which I dunno how to)

Hi guys,

I will be renovating my 30 year old house this year. It's a two floor HDB maisonette. Will be doing up all the networking from scratch. Appreciate if any expert here can advise on recommended fibre plan, placement of routers, LAN cabling is needed etc. I have attached the floor plan here. Thanks!

Here's my suggestion for your router placement: why not put it near the stairs on the lower floor? This way, your AX router can provide network coverage for your living room, dining room, and study room.

If you want to ensure excellent network coverage in your study room, you might want to consider running a LAN cable to it. This will allow you to connect LAN-enabled devices directly to the network, and even set up an additional access point if needed.

And if you plan on using smart TVs or game consoles in your TV area, it's a good idea to prepare a LAN port near the TV console.

For the upper floor, I recommend installing the wireless access point near bathroom 1. And if you find that the wifi signal is weak in some of the rooms, you might want to consider using in-wall access points. However, this would require wiring all the rooms with LAN cables.

1) For ISP plan choice, please read the thread here (at least the first post).

Are you using Singtel now? If you are happy with Singtel, just stick with Singtel. If not you can choose M1 or Starhub.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/singapore-isp-comparisons.6665380/
2) As for the LAN cabling needed, it would be good to have more LAN ports across, say in the living room and all the bed rooms. It will be good to have at least two LAN ports in the TV console area.

3) As for router selection, I will suggest you go with things like Asus AImesh or Netgear Orbi.

Netgear offers FREE Online Installation Guidance and paid on-site installation for S$120 if you choose to use their Orbi mesh solution which is of good value. Lowest-cost option is probably RBK354 at S$579.

Can I ask if you still have another remaining months in your current contract or has it ended? I'm at 21/24 and was offered the other 7 months free recontract, when I asked about this 8 months free contract, I was denied because I was told my contract has not yet ended.

Ah of course, that makes perfect sense.

Those who are 21/24 months are offered the 7 mths free Wifi 6 Enhanced and free router/mesh extender offer while those whose contracts are completed get the choice of 8 mths free and no router offer.

Interesting. that means singtel values the "free router" at 1 month subscription.
