Ah of course, that makes perfect sense.

Those who are 21/24 months are offered the 7 mths free Wifi 6 Enhanced and free router/mesh extender offer while those whose contracts are completed get the choice of 8 mths free and no router offer.
I see there are 2 models. Which model is "better"? Can we choose the model we want when collecting?

I wonder how much does the router cost at retail?
I got the 8mth free + router which i haven go and collect...

But i got the normal mesh router only, no wifi 6, worth abt $20 BN at carousell, tat y i not in a hurry to collect 😄

If u getting lesser mth free, mak sure the router u get is wifi 6 router, arbo bohua

Can share if your contract already ended before you were offered the 8mth free?

I believe you have to buy extra unit from Singtel. Singtel Wifi 6 Extender Askey AP5690W is only from Singtel now. And it seems to be able to mesh with the same model. Or you can buy from Carousell at around S$100.

User guide.

But my suggestion is actually to sell it and then buy proper mesh solution from Asus, Netgear or TP-Link. For example, you can get RT-AX55 from Carousell at about S$80 to S$90.

Both are not good, but this is just my personal opinion...

Airties 4960R -- can function as a router, seems to be only given to ONT users
Askey AP5690W -- can not function as a router, seems to be only given to ONR users

You can get BNIB TP-Link Archer AX72 unit from Carousell which will be much better than the Airties/Askey, if you want to use single wireless router.

If you want to use mesh, then go for proper mesh solution from Asus, Netgear or TP-Link.

Interesting. that means singtel values the "free router" at 1 month subscription.
There is no retail unit as they are customized to Singtel use.

As of now the price in Carousell seems to be on the high side, soon the price will collapse because both are not good. I believe it will soon reach S$40 range, which is kind of 1 month subscription.

Airties 4960R -- Carousell price seems to be S$50 to S$75 (but I am not so sure if people are buying them)
Askey AP5690W -- Carousell price seems to be at S$90 to S$100 (but I am not so sure if people are buying them)

Basically if you see a router given free by Singtel with the brand Airties, Askey or Arcadyan, you know they are not good. But this is just my personal opinion...

If i get one from Singtel and another one from Carousell, both the units will be able to pair and work rite by just plug and play?

That is what I believe based on the installation guide. But please confirm with Singtel.

BTW, I am pretty sure the price will go down soon as more Singtel ONR users are getting free unit of Askey AP5690W from Singtel. I expect it to drop to S$60 pretty fast and then probably settle at S$40 in a few months time.

in my limited experience, all the bundled hardware i have gotten from singtel have been, to put it nicely, grossly underperformers and poor value

i would put 2 pairs of points actually. redundancy is always good, as cables deteriorate over time.

it takes the same effort to pull a pair of cables. the additional work is just the keystone jacks. of course, the contractor won't tell you that, and will charge you twice the amount for a pair.

Yes your number is about right. Wired speed is slighly on the lower side (usually it should be close to 900Mbps).

As for new routers, it depends on your budget. For low budget, TP-Link Archer AX72 (AX5400) is a good one from Carousell. It is dumped by the M1 users and you can get BNIB unit below S$100 (as low as S$80). It has decent Wireless performance. For high budget, Asus GT-AX6000 (AX6000) is a top AX router and again you can get BNIB unit from Carousell at around S$450, again it is dumped by M1 users. And there are many other choices in between.

I assume you are using Singtel ONT (and not ONR), in that case, you need to set up VLAN profile. The following link is for TP-Link Archer AX72.

Hi again xiaofan,
I'm planning to get the AX72 soon, but just want to check if non singtel router can use for miotv as well? Any idea?

Since you are using Singtel ONT, the following configuration will work.

Singtel ONT -- TP-Link Archer AX72 -- Singtel TV Box

You need to set up Singtel VLAN for both the Internet and Singtel TV.

For Singtel ONR users who have Singtel TV box and yet want to use 3rd party router, you have a few choices.

1) Connect Singtel TV box to the Singtel ONR, you may need to have two LAN ports in the TV console area
Singtel ONR -- Singtel TV box
Singtel ONR -- 3rd party router in AP mode (to avoid Double NAT)

2) Use Singtel supported router in AP mode, you only need to have one LAN port in the TV console area
Singtel ONR -- Linksys E9450 in AP mode -- Singtel TV box
Singtel ONR -- Netgear Orbi in AP mode -- Singtel TV box

3) Use Singtel Mesh Router (or Singtel AC Plus or Singtel AC Elite) as the intermediate. You only need one LAN port in the TV console area
Singtel ONR -- Singtel Mesh Router (automatically run in AP mode, you may want to disable its Wifi) -- Singtel TV box
Singtel Mesh Router -- 3rd party router in AP mode

4) Use customized AP mode
Singtel ONR -- 3rd party router in custom AP mode (needs to support IGMP snooping) -- Singtel TV box

If you are using ONT but put a Singtel issued router like Singtel Mesh Router in the DB box. the situation may be similar.

1) Connect Singtel TV box to the Singtel ONR, you may need to have two LAN ports in the TV console area
Singtel ONT + Singtel Mesh Router in DB box -- Singtel TV box in TV console area
Singtel ONT + Singtel Mesh Router in DB box -- 3rd party router in AP mode (to avoid Double NAT) in TV console area

2) Use Singtel Mesh Router (or Singtel AC Plus or Singtel AC Elite) as the intermediate. You only need one LAN port in the TV console area
Singtel ONT + Singtel Mesh Router in DB box -- Singtel Mesh Router (automatically run in AP mode, you may want to disable its Wifi) -- Singtel TV box in TV console area
Singtel Mesh Router in TV Console area -- 3rd party router in AP mode in TV console area

3) The following is not clear yet.
Singtel ONT + Airties 4960R + Unmanged Switch in DB Box

3a) I tend to believe the following will work. But you need two LAN ports in the TV console area.
Singtel ONT + Airties 4960R + Unmanged Switch in DB Box --> Singtel TV box in TV console area
Singtel ONT + Airties 4960R + Unmanged Switch in DB Box --> 3rd party router in AP mode (to avoid Double NAT) in TV console area

3b) No idea whether the following will work or not. It may or may not work. This will require only one LAN port in TV console area
Singtel ONT + Airties 4960R + Unmanged Switch in DB Box --> Singtel Mesh Router (automatically run in AP mode, you may want to disable its Wifi) -- Singtel TV box in TV console area

Singtel Mesh Router in TV Console area -- 3rd party router in AP mode in TV console area

4) Moral of the story --> try to have two LAN ports in the TV console area if your ONT is not located in the TV console area.

Would like to consult the experts here. Am using Singtel Nokia ONR but would like to use a 3rd party asus router. Have been informed by Singtel that bridge mode is no longer supported on the Nokia ONR. Are my only options (i) use the asus router in AP mode or (ii) change to anothet ISP, e.g. m1 that uses ONT? Thanks for any help!
