So is the 20mbps out of 100mbps on wireless normal? The signal is also horrible, my room is beside my dining room but I get 4 bars, sometimes 3 bars and google takes 20+ seconds to load. Same with master bed room.

If I move into my dining room I immediately get fast browsing speed, but speedtest is 20mbps. (both singtel speedtest and speedtest.net)

Now I'm using a d-link 200mbps home plug but I need the pass-through model because I only have 1 socket at my opennet area, so now the powerline light is red, transmitting at <50mbps. But browsing is still super smooth just like in the dining room.

Wondering if its a problem with the 5012NV.

Given your adapter is not the standard min of 2 stream, the result is slightly low but expected.

You can run program like inSSIDer, take a screenshot and post here. There are some chances of neighboring interference.

Samwize,

I think you are not having the latest firmware.

mine is just updated

i want to suggest you to do the followings:

1) download the free version of wifi scanner.
inSSIDer – Discover The Wi-Fi Around You | MetaGeek

scan for wifi in your area during (assuming) when most people (your neighbours) are at home.

identify the best vacant channel

set it to your PACE RG wifi channel (do not use auto)

also set wireless mode to manual. select the appropriate wireless device type that you have. If you have 802.11 g type device just use 802.11 g only or if you have different types then select 802.11 b+g+n. do not use Auto.

while you are at it, make sure the transmit power is at 7 (max)

2) Call ST tech support and ask them to push the new firmware to you.
When done you need to reboot ONT and PACE sequentially.

Hopefully you can get a better connection.

Hey. I think the problem is solved after setting Wireless Mode manually. It has not rebooted for 10 days!.

Thanks! Great advise bro!

Blankshot,

Is Sean Network yours?
3329 at RSSI -63 is considered low if it is in the same room. that kind of level i get from my neighbours.
Is the d-link network extender yours too? it is running in g mode. is that correct?

Sean is not mine, mine is only 3329 and D-link.

Sorry, that was in the room with poor signal but its almost literally beside the room with the modem.

I am using the Extender to connect in the two rooms with poor signal to the 5012NV. I'm not sure if its running on G but the model is 'D Link Wireless N Extender'.

Here's the one done beside the modem in the same room.

Meaning? - - - -

Indirectly means you'd get a bad speed.

For slow loading speed of websites, try pinging the respective website.
If you see high response timing, then you have to switch over to the Homeplug AV extender when out of the room.

I have signed up for the Singtel exPlore Home 100 plan with free Pace A5220N router and mio free package. After reading about the performance of the Pace router, I am considering buying the Asus 56U.

As my PC is in the bedroom and tv in the living room, I am planning on the following:

ONT > Pace(living room and tv) > Asus (bedroom, wired, acting as wireless AP ).

Question:

1. If I connect Pace LAN port to Asus WAN port, will this be sufficient? Any more configuration needed on the Asus end?

2. How do I disable the Pace wireless to prevent it interfering?

Thanks for your help.

You should connect the N56 to the ONT directly and discard the Pace. The N56 will serve you better :D

Thank you for the prompt reply.

I am aware the Asus will perform better. However placing the Asus in the bedroom, as an AP, is to provide wireless to other PCs in other bedrooms which is even further away from the living room. I am afraid by placing the Asus out in the living room, the signals may not be strong enough for the other bedrooms. Hence the chosen location of the Asus.

Don't worry too much about it. The N56 has really good wireless. I can have my N56 on the 3rd floor of my house and still get good reception and speed on the 1st floor. If all you need is decent web surfing and streaming of videos just ditch the wireless. But if you do heavy downloading and gaming, might I suggest you wore up your house instead :)
