My contract 1Gbps plan will be up next month and I've also moved house. Contacted ST and they offered the following promo:

5Gbps Mesh at Plan at $49.70/mth (U.P. $113.90/mth)

Comes with:
2x Wifi 7 devices (TP-Link BE11000)
Home line
12 months of Disney+ Premium
12 months of Broadband Protect
6 months Amazon Prime
NLT activation charge of $61.04 one time charge to bill for relocation.

They refused to waive the NLT charge. This same promo is also on their website plus additional 10,000 Yuu points. In short, doesn't it make more sense to terminate my plan next month and sign up as a new service?
Yeah, terminate and sign up new better. Think they have some new homeowners promo on their website as well

If they are giving you the HB611-SGST Singtel WiFi 7 Router, pls note it has a 2.5 gbps WAN port, so your 5 gbps line will be bottlenecked to that.

do I have to return the old router?

Yeah I read about that in this thread :/ I'm not intending to get my own router other than using the one they provide with. Does Starhub pull this kind of stunt too? Am I better off to sign up with others? I have 1 month to consider before my plan is up and move house.

No I don’t think Starhub pulls this type of stunt. From what I can see, when you get a 5 gbps line from Starhub, they bundle it with a capable CPE (with 10 gbps WAN & LAN ports).

4. Actually it can be worse if you get the Singtel 5Gbps special recontract offer at S$29.90 per month as it comes with free Singtel AX5400 Wireless Router or AP (mesh node) which is capable of only 1Gbps.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/eform/recon-dm/fibre-5g
Recontracting to: Singtel Fibre Broadband Plan (24-month contract applies)
5Gbps (WiFi 6) Enhanced Plan at $29.90/mth (U.P. $95.90/mth)
Comes with 1 unit of Singtel AX5400 WiFi 6 mesh device

Singtel 3Gbps new user special offer at S$29.90 per month also comes with Singtel AX5400 device.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/eform/3gbps-enhanced-plan
3Gbps Enhanced (WiFi 6) Plan at $29.90/mth (U.P. $84.90/mth)
Comes with 1 unit of Singtel WiFi 6 mesh device
hmm, the singtel recontract offer link does not work anymore. If i terminate singtel and switch to starhub, does anyone know how much downtime there will be (landed property for parents). I'm staying in HDB and signed up starhub $29.55 5GBPS plan. Or are there any good singtel recontract offers that are < $30

I think I might consider M1 too. The price is good and comes with very good router. Is it better to use ONT than ONR?

ONT allows you to choose your own router. Additional configuration at the router can be done (but more “power” could also give more complexity to users). ONR gives lesser complexity to users, but some “router/gateway features” are lost. In general, it should not matter to most.

if you terminate then apply new service there will be downtime which no one can advise you here. Always plan to have the new service ready at least a few days before the end of the old service so you don't get any downtime.
So when you apply to starhub, try to request for a specific activation date. you will end up paying a few dollars more during the overlap period but if you don't want downtime then this is the only option

FYI, my recontract for Singtel 5Gbps last August was like this at S$49.90 per month, with ONR plus the free Sintgel AX5400 wireless router.

Indeed Singtel has basically removed all the 5Gbps recontract offer links. Need to wait for next batch of offers.

I have updated the post in the sticky thread.

SingTel is offering:

5Gbps Enhanced Mesh @ $49.70 /mo

with 2 x Singtel WiFi 7 Routers (BE11000) (Tri-band) - which I believe is the HB611-SGST Singtel WiFi 7 Router.

This seems to be the "best" recontract offer one can get as of now since Singtel seems to kill all the other 5Gbps recontract "hidden offer" links. If you want to stay with Singtel, this seems to be the way to go for now.

If you want to leave Singtel, there are quite some alternatives. I tend to recommend M1 and Stathub.

3) M1 6Gbps offer for new user at S$36.90 per month is of even better value at S$36.90 per month with free Archer BE805 or Asus RT-BE92U. You can also top up S$12 per month to go with a pair of ZenWiFi BT10 (I will recommend this top-up if you need a mesh solution).

thank you for your helpful info, as always.

I mention the other thread, actually I’m thinking to go with Starhub 5 gbps @ $45.37 with 1 x HB710 + 1 x eb810v.

This will be my setup:

ONT > eb810v > 10gb LAN > HB710 in study room > 10gb LAN to PC

> 2.5gb LAN > switch in living room > Apple TV / Xbox

> 2.5gb LAN > AP in master bedroom (gl.inet flint 2 in AP mode)

This set up meets my needs better, since I have Ethernet in each room and don’t need to rely on wireless backhaul.

That is certainly an option as well.

However, even with Ethernet Backhaul, TP-Link Easymesh is still not as good as Asus AImesh and TP-Link Deco Mesh as it still has multiple limitations.

References:
1) TP-Link EasyMesh FAQ

2) Dongknows TP-Link EasyMesh review.

For those who want to use TP-Link Easymesh, you may want to read the following FAQ to knows its limiations. As of now, it is not as good as TP-Link's Deco Mesh. Take note it is not compatible with Deco mesh either.
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/support/faq/3529/

Dongknows' review of TP-Link EasyMesh: it has made quite a bit of progress from 2023 to 2025, but still not good in terms of seaming roaming performance. Using wireless backhaul may also cause performance issues.

https://dongknows.com/tp-link-easymesh-wi-fi-system-review/

Limitations:
1) No MLO backhaul,
2) IoT and Guest Network not replicated to the mesh node
3) Limitations when using wireless backhaul (no dedicated frequency band as dedicated wireless backhaul)
4) Limitations when using AP mode on the main node

Conclusion:

TP-Link EasyMesh: Typical performance, mediocre hand-off

Recommendation: whenever possible use Ethernet Backhaul.

So, if you can buy a couple of Archer routers at a low price and have a wired home, a big if, EasyMesh can be a worthwhile option for building a Wi-Fi system from scratch.

Still, in most cases, you’d be better off going with more established DIY options, such as Ubiquiti’s UniFi or Asus’s AiMesh. Or stay with TP-Link’s Deco family.

Thank you!

To be honest, I also feel a bit “dirty” by using my gl.inet flint 2 as an AP in master bedroom - since it would be outside of the “mesh”.

what is stopping me pulling the trigger with M1 and their pair of ZenWiFi BT10, is that this router is lacking additional 2.5gb LAN ports.

Ideally, I’d want:
10gb WAN
At least 2 x 10gb LAN.

since no router seems to offer this, I’m left with:
10gb WAN
1 x 10gb LAN
1 x 2.5gb LAN

…this means only Starhub’s 5 gbps line with 1 x EB810v + 1 x HB710 @ $45.37 /mo is the best option for me, unfortunately.

1) You may want to look at UCG Fibre, with three 10G ports: one 10G RJ45 port and two 10G SFP+ port.

You may want to check out the Ubiquiti thread and you can see it is very popular if you want to graduate from consumer routers from vendors like Asus, TP-Link and Netgear.

Review:
https://dongknows.com/ubiquiti-ucg-fiber-unifi-cloud-gateway-fiber-review/

2) The other easy solution is to add a 10G switch (below S$200 for the lower cost options with at least four 10G RJ45 ports) if you have multiple 10G capable wired device. Or you can add a 10G/2.5G mixed switch (dual 10G ports and quad 2.5G ports) if you have only one 10G capable wired device (about S$100).

Thread '10G capable router and switch -- RJ45 version, no SFP+ ports' https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...and-switch-rj45-version-no-sfp-ports.7072646/

Another proposal is to go for the M1 or Stahub 3Gbps plan and then keep the GL.iNet Flint 2 as the main router. It is still a very good router and the FW features beat TP-Link EB810v/HB710 ( Starhub 5Gbps plan with or without top-up) or Asus ZenWiFi BT10/RT-BE92U/Archer BE805 (M1 6Gbps plan with or without top-up)

You can use the free TP-Link HB410 (Starhub 3Gbps plan) or TP-Link Archer BE230 (M1 3Gbps) as an AP.

I tend to think this may be the easiest way to go.

Actually Starhub are offering HB710 FOC as part of $30.37 5 gbps recontract offer.

So I might just take the offer, but use my gl.inet Flint 2 as main router (obviously this will bottleneck the 5 gbps line to 2.5 gbps, due to 2.5gb WAN port, but that’s fine, for $30 a month). Then I’ll use the bundled HB710 as an AP.

@xiaofan thanks again for your continued suggestions and help. Much appreciated.

Wow that is a interesting offer.
Where or how did you get this Starhub recontract offer?
I can't see it on the app or website.
