Hi all, I was previously with Heya and got migrated over to Hi! I noticed that I cannot receive SMS while in Europe. When I was with Myrepublic, I had no such issues. Is this unsupported by Hi! Any recommendations on which telco I can port over? I travel a lot but also require stable connection in SG.

You should be able to receive roaming incoming SMS if roaming data is supported for the place you go.

Which places do you need to visit?

I set this up with 1 circles life and 1 on Vivifi. Most times it doesn’t auto switch unless one is totally dead with no signal. My own experience.

So it will only auto switch if one line is totally not working or coverage? Does this setting cause more battery usages? Thanks

For my own experience. Yes. I observe more battery consumption but probably because i set to 5G on instead

Hmm I just checked my $12 plan. It has 3GB global roaming world wide roaming and included my country (Poland). Strange I couldn't receive any sms then. I had another local EU sim at that time and it was my main sim.

3GB global roaming mean data roaming.
It doesn't support roaming sms.

As per the FAQ.
https://cdn1.singteldigital.com/con...cts-services/mobile/hi/pdf/singtel-hi-FAQ.pdf

4. Are there any features that cannot be used on the Singtel hi! plan?

hi! Plan does not support these features:
• Roaming calls/SMS services while overseas
• Outgoing local calls to 1900 numbers
• Incoming and outgoing video calling
• Incoming and outgoing MMS
• Outgoing Global SMS
• Transfer of ownership

This is not that clear as usually the roaming SMS here means outgoing roaming SMS.

Better to check with SingTel hi! through in-app chat.

Chat with SingTel hi! for help to see what happens here.

This is the answer from the chatbot.
++++++++
Q: Can Singtel hi! PostPaid plan users receive roaming incoming SMS when going overseas?

A: Yes, Singtel hi! plan users can receive incoming SMS while roaming overseas, as long as:

• Your Singtel hi! plan is active and roaming is supported in the destination country.

• You have not activated the Barring Service (International Incoming SMS) in the Singtel hi! app (Me → Settings → Barring Service). If this barring is turned on, all international incoming SMS, including overseas OTPs and notifications, will be blocked until you deactivate it.
++++

Then I ask about incoming SMS from Singapore.

Here is the answer from the chatbot.
++++
Q: What if the roaming incoming SMS is from Singapore? Is it the same?

A: Good question, that can be a bit confusing when you are overseas.

If you are roaming overseas on a Singtel hi! plan, you can still receive SMS from Singapore numbers, even if you turn on the Barring Service (International Incoming SMS).

The barring service only blocks SMS from international (non-Singapore) numbers. Local Singapore SMS (including OTPs sent from SG numbers) are not affected.
+++++

Is the SMS from Singapore or Poland? Did you enable barring service for International SMS?

Chat with SingTel hi! for help to see what happens here.

My wife is now travelling in China and I just tested -- she can receive roaming SMS messages from Singapore, even with the barring service turned on for international SMS.

lol the talktime and the smses....see like sibeh songs mens. so many but end no use.

Exactly. That kind of amount of local data is probably only useful for those who use the mobile data to replace Fibre Broadband.

The roaming data rollover can be useful though for more people.

The chatbot not tally with the faq.
This is very dangerous and misleading.

Indeed it is better for SingTel hi! to update the FAQ for the hi! Postpaid plans to make it clear that free incoming roaming SMS is supported.

The FAQ was worse previously, especially when the hi! 5G Postpaid plans were launched. Now it is already better than previous version.

There are also still confusions about Singtel hi! Prepaid plans versus SingTel hi! Postpaid plans now that the offerings are almost identical for the S$15 plan.

No issue with recurring auto payment via credit card. Nothing to worry about data! (y)

Looks like you have migrated your SingTel S$15.28 plans to Singtel hi! S$13 Postpaid 5G plans. Do you still keep any Singtel S$15.28 lines?

How is your overall experience with SingTel hi! 5G plan other than the 5G SA coverage issue?

That issue (falling back from 5G SA to 4G in some locations) is not unique to Singtel hi! 5G plan. It also happens to Singtel's own plans and SingTel MVNOs' 5G plans, because of 5G NSA network shutdown.

I may want to go with the same as well. Right now my wife is using SingTel hi! S$13 5G plan as the roaming line in Guangzhou China and so far so good.

IMHO.
Guangzhou roaming with SIngtel Sim Only, SIngtel Hi, Zym and Eight - mostly 4G with occassional 5G NSA - no 5G SA.
Speed is something to be desired but overall usable. :ROFLMAO:

IMHO.
I was overseas and have Singtel SIM Only ( SIngtel SO ) and SIngtel Hi.
IIRC, was setting up WeChat or something.
I barred international voice and SMS for SIngtel SO. did not receive SMS from China.
I did not bar International Voice and SMS for Singtel Hi, so SMS from China came in.

Nice. Thanks for the confirmation. Looks like the chatbot answer is correct.
