Budget too tight if you are looking at Sony TV.
Maybe can consider Sony KDL-43W660G will fit your usage.
Other than that under $700 would be other TV like Samsung.

But such range are Smart TV while Android TV cost more than $1k
for it's entry models.

I think you can look at samsung NU7100 (2018 model if they still have stock), Samsung RU7100 (2019 model) or LG UK6320 models if you want a 4K TV close to your said budget. From Sony, 4K TV at that price, unlikely unless there is a clearance sale or display set maybe?

Since you have Nvidia Shield TV, you do not really need Android TV like Sony. Nvidia Shield TV will beat all the smart TV out there in terms of app performance. The only thing missing from Nvidia Shield TV may be Dolby Vision support in general and Dolby Atmos support under Netflix. For that you can get smart TV Samsung where you also gain things like native Toggle support (you need to cast from mobile phone if you use Nvidia Shield TV or Sony Android TV).

Even if you’re using Sony smart or android tv, you can still access to Toggle without using your phone to cast it. You can access to Toggle Red from tv so not a big deal that Toggle is in Samsung tv because even LG tv have Toggle too. Not important anyway.

In terms of picture quality, I will still go for Sony tv and since you already have Nvidia Shield then you should just go for basic Sony smart tv will do.

Anyway I’m using a Sony tv with Nvidia Shield. Both android haha. All good.

Sony has better picture quality and better 4K upscaling for the 1k price point..
however for Sony, I dont think you're able to get the X1 chipset for that price point.

For around 1k, probably you'll be looking at the 49" X7000G (2019), X8000G (2019), or maybe the X8500F (2018 comes with X1 Chip) if you're able to stretch your budget alittle bit. The 49" X8500F seems to come with a VA panel instead of the IPS panel which has poor contrast ratio. So for bedroom should be alright.

Hmmm... Seems to me at least the X8 series then will have the X1 chip..

Does the chip make that big diff? As in without the chip if getting might as well get other TV?

I think IPS panel for me will be better cos If I did not get it wrong, VA panel is the matte kind rite?

The chip will be obvious when there is 1080 content or lower.

IPS for better viewing angle but poor contrast ratio. blacks seem grey if your room is dark. the TV is for bedroom right?
