Finally managed to run some form of SpeedTest on my unit. This is the speed I'm getting on a 1Gbps internet subscription via 802.11ac connection (with a signal strength of 32% as reported by my access point), i.e. sometimes a good 175Mbps, but sometimes a low 94Mbps.:

If the nic speed of the tv set is 300Mbps, for example, that would be the typical speed (the 175Mbps and 94Mbps) you get, assuming your router has a faster speed. Generally, throughput is about half of the lower rated speed of the router and wireless device.

Now another question: has anybody successfully managed to join the X8500C onto a 802.11ac channel that has a hidden SSID (means the WLAN isn't being broadcasted)?

I was thinking of buying another 2 but because it can't stream one vid which my 2 other LG TV can, I am reconsidering.

That signage video of yours is it? Then really deal-breaker, i.e. I think you have to fall back on a confirm-working solution.

Actually I'm more of curious instead of really complaining. I'm very positive the TV is specifically hooking up my wireless at AC (instead of 802.11n; & also because I verify which SSID the TV is connecting to). So theoretically, it should be able to hit at least 433Mbps for local data (of course, the speedtest I'd shown is testing against Singapore but still external servers).

I'll try again & see if I can repeat my findings.

Ultimately it is ironic if a LAN point is reserved for the TV (what I did); & I can get faster bandwidth by giving the TV a WLAN instead of wired LAN

I actually did (try connecting to a AC WLAN that isn't broadcasting its SSID); but didn't succeed. I asked the question because I wish to know if the TV has no such capability or if it is due to my wireless access point configuration.

However, the remarkable thing is, IIRC, the TV has no issue connecting to hidden 2.4GHz WLAN & visible 5GHz(AC) WLAN.

PIP (Picture In Picture) and PAP (Picture And Picture) functions will be updated within 2015.

I think we have to wait for future system software updates before the button will work.

Compliance with 802.11ac means that router or nic is able to communicate in either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands, but not both at the same time. Since you mention speed of 433MHz, I believe this is the 5G speed of your router. Are you able to tell the 5G speed of your tv set? This may be much lower than that of the router. If so this will be the bottleneck.

I mention this because I just had a surprise this afternoon. My router is capable of 600Mbps in the 5G band, but I can only get ~ 20Mbps throughput from local servers on my Acer laptop. After checking, I discovered that it's 5G speed was only 54Mbps, the same as the 802.11G standard. Haven't got the time to investigate further the reason of this 54Mbps limit yet.

This is true in your case if the wired speed of the nic is only 100M instead of 1G, assuming there is nothing wrong with the cable.

Yep its more than a year old model liao (walmart already selling in early 2014). Saw their reviews very good leh. Hopefully the local set is as good

pairing with bluetooth keyboard

took a very old very generic bluetooth keyboard & managed to pair it with the X8500C! Finally don't need to select letters for text input via the default remote controls. Even the trackpad works:

A question for the owners: Does the W800C series come with a recording function?

A check on the operating instructions (http://www.sony.com.sg/support/product/kdl-55w800c) shows that the Au/NZ models come with the feature.

Hmm, not sure if anyone replied - it really seems that only the AU/NZ region has this feature enabled.

Is it possible to enable it via some hack or otherwise?

Where did you all bought the sets ah? I tried finding at Harvey Norman and Best Denki but don't have. The prices quoted are like $600-800 for similar models.

Hmm, it appears that NZ/AU are using the older DVB-T instead of T2 - so possibly Sony truly does not support DVB-T2 recording to USB... yet?

According to DVB.org info last modified on 5 Aug 2015, NZ has already deployed T2 while Au has only deployed T. My view is that as a content provider, Sony would zealously protect its intellectual property rights. But I am no IP expert and so will not know why recording function is provided in the Au/NZ market. More comments below...

Edit: In the operating manual, it is mentioned that, for Au/NZ models:

HDD REC function will be available from mid 2015.
You will receive HDD REC function automatically as a
software upgrade. Make sure your TV is connected
to the Internet. If you do not have a network

Both LG and Samsung have time machine (recording functions) since long time ago. But I understand that for LG, recordings can only be viewed on the same TV sets that made them. Again, it looks like IP is at play.

There may be a misunderstanding that free-to-air contents has no copyright. I once uploaded a public funded (MDA) program produced by MediaCorp to Youtube. Although I made it unlisted, there was a message saying that the material was copyright protected.

Yeap, my dead LG 55LW6500 supposedly had this function for DVB-T channels - but I wasn't able to use it coz the reception at my location was still non-existent despite DIY'ing the popular Daiso Clips and CD jewel casing antenna...

Spoke with someone at Best Denki, and he claims that none of the brands can record DVB-T2 currently (DVB-T yes, DVB-T2 no).
