Isn't the tape plastic? Haha
Yeah I was thinking about that too. Initial setup your phone will become very hot because you need to download many stuffs just like the camera created heat haha~ there's an update and its very long (longest update I experienced )

did it (1ii) eventually get better...? like it has AI to manage heat generated based on your usage pattern.

I just don't want to spend $2k on a phone which is going to force shut down halfway through when I'm using normally (taking a few photos outdoors... or browsing web... or watching some youtube). it's ridiculous.
The 1II processor (Manufactured by TSMC) generally generate less heat and its still the processor that is closest to giving the Apple processor run for its Money.

As for the xperia 1III it gone through many updates to optimize both mobile applications and programming so likely made it more stable. Now for this phone I its NPNT possible also trying to optimize but will take some time. But the processor is a letdown (all thanks to Samsung) and Sony can just try their best to cool / prevent it from heating too much. Again same as last year all flagship using 888 will have heating issues it will also be the same for this generation flagship using this processor. I love the long battery life and bright display but still need improve. For Sony to improve cooling drastically will most likely need a robust cooling system which will also mean bigger and thicker mobile. And I don't think they will compromise it.

I can't say about 888 since I'm still using 865... (oppo find x2 pro) which hardly heats up unless I'm playing games or watching videos on it for a period of time.

still on the fence about this 1iv although it's high time for an upgrade and I was kinda convinced by Sony once more but this troublesome chip is pulling me back.

I wish Sony can do a 'refresh' and relaunch 1iv with the tmsc chip instead.

My initial thots:
Initial setup (update etc) was warm, but heck I just left it away for 2 hours to update first. Then I wiped my phone and resetup from scratch - phone was at most a little warm, not as hot as previously liao.

Onto playstore update, install and restore data - installation was much faster (on par with my s22u, and faster than my p6p). Heat wise manageable, was better than the initial setup and p6p during this installation phase. If I compare to Apple, ip13pm also got warm initially when setup and stuff, I would dare say that so far Sony was cooler than ip13pm (the second setup)

I haven't played with camera, but I suspect that the telephoto going to su** for the moment. Will play tomorrow and see.

Speaker and tidal - goes very well hand in hand. Much better than my ip13pm I must add.

In case anyone want to try, my room temp usually around 22-25 degrees 😅

Recommend to do a clean initial setup which takes forever, then a proper setup... seems to give me pretty gd thermals after that :)

I have a question about the 3.5mm headphone jack since people hardly talk abt it hahaha but is there any improvements to it amplification wise ? Using the 1 iii currently and some earphones that I plug in still require me to push higher than 60% to get decent volume..
