I bought the dual SIM for $460. The shop said it's export model so no local warranty. If somehow not working, may have to pay $$$ for servicing.

Encountered the sudden death when phone was 70% battery and I was checking WhatsApp messages, not even on LTE phone call. No button combinations will wake it up, had to run back to plug in charging cable.

When my SingTel contract renews in July, can I trade in this export model when buying a new phone?

Nope. They only accept tradeins for local models, but I don't think they can check it anyway. Just try your luck? Or else selling it off on Carousell or HWZ is more worth it.

My original phone was a Sony Xperia M4 Aqua. I washed it under running tab with handsoap to get rid of some stains and finger prints. Did that regularly for 5 months ..... but this time it couldn't start up properly/completely. I had to send it for repair for water damage, still under warranty.

I needed a phone quickly as I don't have any spare (always traded-in my previous phone to recontract a new one). The shop didn't have the Xperia M5 local model $475 so I bought the Dual SIM export model $460. Didn't have time to shop around because I urgently needed to use WhatsApp for work across several projects.

So sad to encounter the Xperia M5 sudden death within a week, even before my Xperia M4 comes back from (2 weeks') repair.

I'm curious how to check if my "export" model really have no local warranty? Do they check from the serial number or they just assume Dual SIM is export model?

Seems Sony SG has removed the M5 Dual from its website?

Now I also wondering if Hitec really selling local set.

Maybe that answers my question. Sony not selling Dual SIM in Singapore, so no local warranty just by identifying the model.

I bought the export Dual SIM model on short notice .... didn't think about the consequence of having no warranty.

According to xda-d, the problem is a hardware issue regarding the battery assembly. The remedied part is version 3. But no way we able to check unless u dismantle the set.

Which reminds me why Gsmarena's review mentioned that the M5 test set did not include battery life test as the results are way out of norm. Probably the battery also fell asleep

How's the bttery life for you?

good point Chisel, I found that line suspicious too in their review.
so will any newer stock will already have this issue resolved - or the only way is to buy it and once faced with the problem let the service center change the battery ?

just don't buy la. boycott this product. I used to own a M5 and was so excited cos of the specs-price ratio but the battery shutdown was an embarrassment for such a huge company.

before knowing about the battery problem i was also damn ready to get the M5 too, but the battery problem sort of killed the excitement..
