before knowing about the battery problem i was also damn ready to get the M5 too, but the battery problem sort of killed the excitement..

Sent from my Rice phone using GAGT

ya cos internal it seems pretty nice. Helio X10 SoC (although with Redmi Note 2/3, M5 got quite screwed over for being overtly pricey), water resistance, front AND back 13MP cam, 3GB RAM.. but the battery problem :s11::s22:

According to xda-d, the problem is a hardware issue regarding the battery assembly. The remedied part is version 3. But no way we able to check unless u dismantle the set.

Which reminds me why Gsmarena's review mentioned that the M5 test set did not include battery life test as the results are way out of norm. Probably the battery also fell asleep

How's the bttery life for you?

Edit:typo
Has anyone sent their M5 to replace the battery? Does the shut down problem persists?

I'm still encountering the sudden death every few days, very frustrating in the middle of WhatsApp or phone call. Had to run to a power source. The problem is I bought the Export model M5 Dual so I believe Sony Service Center will charge me a fee to "repair".

I don't seems to have any other choice. Maybe sell back at a -$100 loss to the shop.

Have to plug in my power bank. Both occurs when I was in train.

how frequent are yours? Mine is like 2 times in 2 weeks.
I noticed that it will happen no matter what the battery level is. It won't happen at home or if you not moving around. It happens when I'm in office or in MRT, and signal becomes weak. I experienced quite frequent shut downs while on WhatsApp and in middle of a phone call. Somehow the signal was weak at that time.

I bought a M5 Dual export model, no local warranty. Just checked with Sony Repair Centre, they said they won't/can't replace my battery. They only have spares for regular M5 (..... I know, it's the same thing, but ....)

I'm stuck now.

You can try mobile shops for OEM battery. Otherwise, 3rd party batteries from China suppliers. Search yourself on Aliexpress.

I encountered same issue with the M5 Dual and had tried many recommendations from the websites.

So far the only successful solution is to set the phone to GSM only (instead of LTE) and this prevent he phone from auto shutdown. However, I am not happy with this as I hv paid for a phone capable of LTE.

Was thinking of getting the M5, but with the intermittent shutdown problems, I'm now looking at the M4 Aqua. Any advice?

don't get M4 Aqua. it's 2016 and that phone only has 8GB of internal storage.

M5 has decent specs but the shutdown problem is a shame.

for M4A, even if you're a super super light user who only Facebook, WhatsApp and surf net, you will definitely have no space for any games and any other bigger apps like Dropbox, Evernote, etc.

so yeah. if you have the money maybe you spend a bit more for a Z5? if die die is budget I'd rather you get a 2nd hand/brand new Z3.

or you can always get another brand... market is flooded with mid-range phones these days that are much, much better than M4A/M5

Hmm the Redmi Note 2 has similar specs to the M5, can consider it but heard there's some WiFi connectivity issue happening due to the X10 chip and possibly software too.
Or else you can consider the Galaxy A3 (2016) or LG G4 beat/Class? One comparable phone to the M4 Aqua at least. :)

Thank you all for the advice.... I guess I'm headed for a Z5, just hope that the snapdragon 810 overheating issues are resolved.
