Had been a Sony fan seen their Walkman generation. Merge with SE is a failure that made them `divorced`. Xperia series is the peak where more people starting to know them n firmware update was fast n minimise problem unless those big phone maker kept having funny problem after firmware update.

If Sony going to exit from telecom then likely from Singapore too, then is a sad thing.

I think most of the us are buying from telecom. Except those willing to pay hard code fan buy without contract.

If so, next year will jump to Huawei or Honor. Unless telecom sell Sony again.

Singapore smartphone market still relies heavily on sales from telco, especially for flagship phones.

Since Sony prices its smartphone price at a higher price tag, people generally will prefer getting it from telco or street shops (where they get stocks usually from telco recontract customers). However, if Sony fade its presence from local telcos, that would mean people will have to either switch to other brands or get it at full RRP from Sony Store (if Sony Mobile is still in SG).

If this is true, sounds like the trend in US market where everywhere is just heavy promotion of fruit/sam phones.

The rest is only chinese phones who started off being budget products until recently, higher priced phones.

Majority of consumers are either loyalists or followers.

In Japan Sony is still relatively strong. And the CEO spoke in January that he hopes Sony will continue to manufacturer xperias to catch the 5g wave

5G is certainly to arrive.
But we will see what other benefits will be, besides the higher data rates.

Bought xz2 premium and every one called me a dinosaur...

People used to call others as using a tablet when they used the first few Note series.

Many of those who used fruity phone are called sheeps.

Use what you like, why bother with others who hate Sony? :s13:

fun fact, my 2 previous sony phones lasted 2 years or more easily. only battery issues at most.

and the XZ2 I bought recently was made in Thailand (yes not china). so that shows some quality... YET people go others which have been proven to fail easily..

That's true. I fully agree. All of my many Sony and even Sony Ericsson products lasted a long time. I don't remember any of them spoiling

Even my 20+ year old ESP CD player never spoiled and I managed to sell it for 50 bucks online :s13:

The phones i use also survived for 2, 3 years afterwhich I pass to my mum to continue using

But the time has come, after much procrastination, I've finally hopped over to another ship

Today I finally bought my S9+

I learnt today that the shops at Far East get their stocks mostly from people who get their phones from telcos. Getting them from distributors are more expensive for the shops.

That's why i couldn't find any 128GB version, had to buy the 256GB one cos not many people are signing for S9+ anymore cos they're buying Note9 instead to sell as it's more profitable and there's more demand for it

And probably that explains why the shops don't carry Sony anymore. Cos no demand, cannot offer a good price for those who wanna sign to buy from telco and resell to the shops

Byebye guys. Unwilling Sony fan leaving.

That's somewhat true... Thick bezels and heavy weight.

Bezels is a matter of preference.

Other flagship phones are also not thin or lightweight either.
But like it or not, phones are going to get heavier unless battery size remains the same or makers omit some hardware.

Let me check the last time when people said sony will exit the market...looks like every year there are lots of such comments.

I do not think it will go away so soon, seeing other brands that are only rely on mobile phone sales are still hanging on.
Most of the people forgot that sony are still making profits from ps, tv, cameras, movies, music, etc.

At the most, it will just sell the xperia brand to some Japanese company and revive like the vaio brand.

Sony Mobile probably won't exit the SG market completely, maybe they will just sell their Xperia devices exclusively in Sony Stores.

Removable battery will make the phone bigger due to waterproof qualities, unless the battery size is smaller.

Sony did have water resistant phones with removable batteries like xperia v and ZR.
