I just terminated my StarHub HomeHub. They collected back the TV box. Gave me a Nokia Beacon 1. They offered me $39.90 per month, 3 months free.

I continue to use my Linksys EA8100 as router. Used the Beacon 1 as one of the access points. Despite bad reviews, the Beacon 1 seems good to me, as an access point. 400+Mbps download and 500-600Mbps for upload on WiFi. 900+Mbps upload/download on cable, but of course only one network point.

Nokia Beacon 1 is strong in near range but the coverage is worse than EA7500 v2 and EA8100. So it depeneds on the use case.

Yes, my contract says Perpetual Discount which is why it continued to bill the discounted price even after contract

mine is perpetual discount too.

good also. one can continue to pay for the same price while looking for other deals from other ISPs.

but so far fibre broadband promo is not attractive nowadays.

True. But I think okay for near range use. Anyone has a brand new Beacon 1 that he/she is not using? I thinking of buying another set. $30? Carousell has many people selling at $40 upwards. And people buying at $20.

Not really, I prefer my EA8100 instead of Nokia router. I am thinking of getting the Linksys MX4200 or ASUS RT-AX86U when I recontract next year.

I think you are using a wifi 6 adaptor on your computer. If it is a wifi 5 adaptor should be 300+ Mbps only. My EA8100 already can give me 300+ on my android TV box and Samsung phone in my room. Actually you will not benefit significantly even with more bandwidth. 4k Video Streaming from Netflix only need 25Mbps.

Hi I have a Mi Box S Android TV box. How can I check the bandwidth it is receiving from my EA 8100? Thanks

400+Mbps download and 500+Mbps upload via WiFi was achieved on my iPhone 7. Does that have WiFi 5 or 6? I have no idea.

iPhone 7 is a good 2*2 AC 80MHz client, so only WiFi 5 and no WiFi 6. Theoretical max speed is 866Mbps for both the iPhone 7 and Nokia Beacon 1 on the 5GHz band.

What you get from Nokia Beacon 1 and iPhone 7 is not bad but normal.

Just install apps like Analiti Speedtest Wifi Analyzer to check.

Mi Box S is not bad at 5GHz AC wifi and can easily achieve above 200Mbps when places closer to the router.

Hi all,

My family have signed up for the starhub 1gbps plan and we were given the nokia beacon 1. However, the wifi connection is very unstable in my room even though I have put one of the nokia beacon inside my room. I understand that the nokia beacon 1 is not the best. However, is there any way to solve the issue? I was wondering if connecting a LAN cable directly to the nokia beacon will improve the stability of the connection in my room?

So you have two Nokia Beacon 1 and right now they are connected through wireless (wireless backhaul). Looks like there is no good connection between the mesh node in your room to the main node, probably due to walls in between.

In that case, yes using Ethernet backhaul (to connect the mesh node to the main node using Ethernet cable) will sort out the issue.

Hello xiaofan,

Thank u so much for the reply.
Yes, u are right. Both the nokia beacon 1 are connected through wireless backhaul.
I will try using the ethernet backhaul method tonight and see if it works.
Thanks a lot!

currently i am having starhub fibre broadband, contract ends 10 oct. now i go to sign up for m1 broadband (without cancelling the starhub first). what is needed for the M1 fibre broadband to be activated?

the termination point (TP) has two ports right? so if i sign up m1 fibre broadband, do netlink trust need to come to my house to do anything?

We just moved condo unit and we transferred the old tenants 1 gbps plan to ours. Transition was seamless but we are only getting 120 mbps speed tops. Wired or wireless.
Tried calling starhub support but they only redirecting to linksys support. Is that the process?

should be lan cable problem (should be written on the cable cat 5), change it to cat 6 or 7 from ont to your router.

Hmmn.. Ill try again tomorrow. But afaik if its lan cable it wouldn't go up above 100mbps right?

If your cable is Cat 5 (rated up to 100Mbps), then likely will not go up above 100Mbps. But if Cat 5e and above, it should go up to 1000Mbps. I can get 900+Mbps when my computer is connected via LAN cable.

You need to trace back and tell us how your connection is like, all the way from TP > VeONT > router > PC. One of your device and/or cable may be limiting the speed to 100Mbps.

Just plug in your laptop directly to the ONT. If you are getting near the subscribed speed, then there is no issue with the ONT or your device. So it can be something to do with your router. Unlikely you are on Cat 5 which doesn't go to 120mbps. However if your Cat 5e or 6 cable is damaged or partial severed , the speed can get as low as a Cat 5.
