Hi Tonydickinson,

Understand you manged to connect successfully using the N66U directly to the HG863. I've the entire same setup as yours and my N66 is on 112 firmware as well.

I've followed all your steps but still unable to get a connection.
1) Selected "Manual"
2) Keyed in VID as 1075 Prio 2 (Elite plan as well)
3) Authentication = None
4) Hostname = S/N of Dlink DVG-Port forwarding set to Yes.

Despite above, I'm still unable to get a connection. Have tried different combos of the VID and Prio but still doesnt help.

I'm desparate here and would really appreciate your help, or anyone whom can chip in.

I've even tried flashing to Melin firmware 144 beta but still doesnt help.

Many thanks in advance!!

Hi Thank you very much it eventually worked after resetting the ONT using port 1.

Is is really very fast and will let me change the DNS servers once it is "Connected", although if the ONT is rebooted the DNS needs to be set to auto to reconnect.

I first of all bought the NT56U about two months ago in preparation for this fibre as it was to replace an Apple Airport Extreme which I knew would never connect directly to the ONT. But the NT56U looks nice but with the weight of cables attached cables its unsteady in my place and I like the feel of the 66U better and it also has a broadcom chip.

So anyone interested in making reasonable offer for the two month old N56U which works perfectly, have all the receipt and accessories. Please pm me.

Tks again.

Elite plan should be VID 1075 Prio 1.

Thanks ngbc. I've tried that as well. But it doesnt seem to work. Can you advise if there're any other settings i've listed that might be wrong? Also after doing the setup, it always prompt network undetected. Do I set the DCP as auto?

Do you see any settings that I might have also missed out?

thanks much!

@Juzzmee,

I don't own a N66U but a HWZer ddb got it working with N66U (w/ FW 3.0.0.3.112) with the following configuration :

1. Selected "Manual" from the ISP Profile
2. Set Internet to VID 1078 PRIO 1 for Platinum plan (in your case, VID 1075 PRIO 1 for Elite plan)
3. Leave IPTV (LAN port 4) & VoIP (LAN port 3) BLANK
4. Set Host Name to S/N of Huawei RG, found on sticker on RG
5. Set MAC Address: MTA MAC of RG. found on sticker on RG.

D-link RG's SN & MTA MAC should be something like:

6. Enable Port forwarding must set to Yes.

*NOTE*
Everytime you swapped a different device connected directly to ONT, you have to restart the ONT.

Please note that LAN port 3 & 4 cannot be used after the above configuration.

I would suggest that you do a factory-reset of the N66U before attempting the above steps.

Manual Preset

TP
l
ONT
(LAN port 1)
l
(WAN port)
Asus RT-N66U
|
|--Port1--> Computer
|--Port2--> Computer
|--Port3--> No Use
|--Port4--> No Use

When you get the above working with Internet access on port 1 & 2, you may want to input the VID & PRIO on
port 3 & 4 to see if you're able to use port 3 & 4.

Please feedback.

FYI I have now added VID 1078 PRIO 1 for LAN Port 3 & 4 and have all 4 ports working fine.

I have also upgraded to Merlin's 144 Firmware recently with no ill effects

Yours should be from D-link RG (aka Dlink wireless router).

Hi Guys,

Thanks again ngbc & ddb.

Sorry, hope i really dun sound like a nuisance. But that was what i keyed in for the hostname and Mac address (using my Dlink router's S/N and MAT Mac address), set VID 1075 PRIO 1 for Internet and left the other 2 blank.

Do I need to key in manually the DNS servers cos I left it auto?

Damn, reckon I'm doing all the right stuffs as per your advises but still unable to connect. Arrgghhh...

Anything else you think should be set but I missed out?

P.S. Called SH and was told that there's no way to connect the N66 to the ONT. I should connect this way as told, ONT --> Dlink wireless router --> N66. ONLY this method will work!

Thanks again for your patience...

Juzzmee,

Connect to DNS server automatically set to Yes, and leave the 2 DNS server entry BLANK.

You got to be very sure which plan you're on, check your Starhub Bill :

  • 1071 - Premium/Ultimate
  • 1075 - Elite
  • 1078 - Platinum/Supreme
And, only LAN port #1 on the ONT is active, the rest no internet access.
Double check your entries (make sure 0 or O, 1 or l etc)

Remember to reboot both the ONT and N66U while they're connected.

Worst come to worst, factory-reset to default setting for N66U and redo everything!

Those people connecting this way either have their DV provisioned on the cable modem or opt out of DV.

Just had my starhub DV changed to cable modem.

Now ONT>router instead of RG.

Hi,

so I looked for the right settings, in this forum and elsewhere, to get my N56u connected directly to the ONT and could not find it in one place. so I played around a bit and got it to work. This is what I did (now I can get rid of the horrible Huawei RG).

Note: I don't do VoIP, so have not tested that. just need Internet in my setup and that works (posting using the new setup).

Hopefully, this will help other people

steps

1) connect ONT to WAN port on N56U (my firmware is 1.0.1.8d-p3. not sure that this makes a difference)

2) configure the following under WAN in advanced settings (on the N56U)

under "Special Requirement from ISP"

Select ISP (VLAN Mode): Manual VLAN Filter + Partitions (Manual VLAN did not work for some reason)

Internet: VID 1071 PRIO 1
IPTV (LAN 4): VID 1099 PRIO 1
VoIP (LAN 3): VID 1095 PRIO 1
Authentication: disable
VPN Server: <left blank>
Host Name: S/N of RG. found on sticker on RG
MAC Address: MTA MAC of RG. found on sticker on RG. Device MAC did not work

you might have to change the internet VID if you have higher capacity plans

Hope this helps someone

I am on Starhub MaxInfinity 100Mbps ... I try the above configuration and managed to connect ONT to my Asus RT-N56U.

But right now, the funny thing is that one of my PC that originally able to connect to the router couldn't get connected now. The connection is via cable.

you are likely not using padavan firmware.

I managed to get everything working liao.

But the funny thing is, I got 4 Gigabit port but only the 2nd port can get connection.

When I move the cable to port 3 and 4 .... I get the funny IP :

Autoconfiguration IPv4 .. 169.254.118.19
IPv4 Subnet Mask .. 255.255.0.0
IPv4 Default Gateway *Blank*
IPv4 DNS Server *Blank*
IPv4 WINS Server *Blank*

Any other owner of RT-N56U experienced this?
