You can activate it anytime, it’s instant. In fact I accidentally activated my giga Sim even before receiving it by logging in and clicking on activate in the app.

Received the sim card on 5 Jun. Going to activate on 30 Jun. Brother going to use up his prepaid sim balance before switch over.

Someone here said can wait 1 month to activate before become invalid.

I see. But what I meant by activate was the port over date, I'm not sure if you can trigger this in the app.

My old SIM card no longer has connectivity 1 working day after receiving the giga SIM so I had no choice but to put in the new SIM.

i dun think port-in request, you can choose a specific date to do so.

Once you submit it, the telco will just process it accordingly. if you want it to be done later, you should just sign up and request for port-in later.

I received the SIM card with a temporary number, used it for a week before porting in. Use the port in function in the App.

Upon clicking the port in function at around noon, port in completed same night around midnight I think. No hiccups and went smoothly.

Oh ok, you can’t control the port in date, it happens automatically the same or next day after the Sim is activated, if you chose port in option upon sign up. Best to get the Sim first with a new number, then request for number port when you’re ready.

Troublesome when you need to set up a phone for apps like Whatsapp which are tied to your mobile number...

actually dun get it why one wants to delay the port-in? becos of the $18 pop up deal? giga their plans are pretty much ongoing even the $18 pop up deal 'always' pop up so nothing to worry too.

unless you are securing limited time promo such as myrepublic lite $10 plan that ends after 30 Jun 2020 but ur current contract is not over yet. so u want to sign the line and delay the port in later.

else isn't it will be just easy for one to sign up only when he is ready to port in?

I ported in later because I wanted to test Giga reception before deciding to port in from M1. MVNO is totally new to me then. Was worried that cheap may not be good. :) But now I am a happy MVNO user telling my friends to quickly switch.

yup. MVNOs are perfectly ok actually.

The most no need to worry part is that it has no contract, so even it is bad next day can port out also. At most one just lugi one month of subscription. For testing purpose, it is perfectly reasonable.

How to do this? do you choose port in or new number when sign up?

I have 1 new line with new number but cannot see the option to port in.

From what cso told me, this option to port in option only activate if your port in is failed.

I selected new number during sign up. The option to port in is by opening menu at lower right of dashboard page.

Didn’t speak with any CSO but just did it this way and didn’t encounter any problems.

I see many of you signed up new Giga lines. Did you use any referral code to get huge discounts? 25GB plan got $15 off.

of course no need. one does not need data to receive sms, even while roaming.

to receive sms locally, you need to connect to your isp network

similarly to receive sms overseas, you need to connect to your isp partners network.

so roaming is a must !!!
but on your phone, just need to turn off "Data roaming" to avoid incuring un-necessary overseas data charges.
