it's VOLTE issue,

my aunties 3 lines also cannot call in/out....but data ok.

they are using 7-8 years old phones...no VOLTE.

but i inserted their sim card into my Magic V3, can call in/out. then back to their phone, cannot again.
my family member phone is Realme 7 5G. release on 2020.
cannot call in and out.
since giga cannot solve the problem, port over to Eight. Now can call in and receive call.

eight good ?
Eight is also starhub, you think Giga good, then Eight also good. Vice versa...
But the IDD (call to overseas) and roaming is good, just no 5G with a good entry cost of 8 SGD

Interesting, did you maybe use the family member sim card on your phone (assuming volte is working on your current provider) or putting your sim card (assuming volte is working on your current provider) into your family member realme 7?

GIGA told my family member realme7 not compatible . So we didnt try.
We goes for wallet friendly way. port out Giga.

Oop.. GIGA say Realme 7 not compatible to their 5G but my family member didnt upgrade to 5G. Ask Giga. as usual no response. Since they dont bother, and this issue has been there for a week+, my family member dont want to wait for GIGA to solve the problem.

they are using those samsung J7 prime and elderly flip phones, where got VOLTE lol

J7 prime does support Volte.
J7 prime was a 2016 phone. Not that old. Even some 2014 phones support volte.

But those early Samsung phones are most likely carrier (CSC) locked. They can only use volte in the country they are sold. I have an 2016 A7, can use volte in TW, can't in SG

Received email from giga saying improved 5g nationwide coverage.

Anyone knows what is the change?

Is Giga in Australia broken? Can't even register to any network.

Probably something to do with Australia closure of 3g and require whitelisting

I've posted about a similar situation in sg, not as extreme, but not far off. @gaoqikai has posted about the aus situation too.

here's a link to a video summary:

solution from the video: when you land, buy a new phone from from the telco you intend to roam with or buy a local SIM and that's not guaranteed to work. Used phones probably won't work.

I have read reddit posts that in usa, AT&T blocked phones based on models, but would white list the particular phone's IMEI on appeal. no such mechanism here - consumers here are price takers.

I won't be surprised if telcos here follow suit and limit support to only models they sell.
Already, some phones (models, or even brands) that work on one telco here, won't work on another telco. You have to do more research before porting out. Heck, you need to do a lot more research and future prediction before buying a phone (will it be supported 1-2 years down the road?) . Or just buy a flagship Samsung or Apple......

the video also mentions withdrawing support in future. it's already happened here. At least one telco (MNO) has shrunk their supported list from last year.
There is no appeal mechanism. But they have a shiny new phone they want to sell to you!!!!!
It is a "business friendly" environment here, after all.

Ending on a slightly positive note. Most of my calls in the last few years, are via VOIP apps, so I'm fine as long as there is a data connection. Normal incoming phone calls are mostly scammers, so lack of VoLTE calling capability is no big deal, in fact, the absence of scam calls is actually quite refreshing.
of course, if i still want to receive "normal" voice calls, i could switch to Simba and use their voice app, but I'll have to put up with their, uh, fantastic network coverage and speed.

Could not make or receive calls on phone line, I didn't even know this was happening to my phone until someone told me they couldn't call me.

I tried everything Giga suggested but my phone was still not able to make calls. Even removed and cleaned the sim card to make sure it was ok.

I ported to Gomo. Upon installing the new full-activated sim card, I could call out.

It's not my phone that's the problem. Giga has the problem.

Edit: Using iPhone SE 2020

when calling, check that it is on VoLTE. if not, it is still on 3G, and the cutoff may happen in the near future (assuming ST also does not support your phone).

my st lines still support 3G, while my sh-based lines do not.

my st lines still support 3G, while my sh-based lines do not.

My phone is listed as "Apple: iPhone 6s and newer models and running on iOS 15 and above", which is supported by Giga.

While still on Giga and trying to figure out if I could solve the "no phone calls situation" on my phone, I switched between 3g and 4g. Switched VOLTE on and off. Switched APN as the customer service and FAQ suggested. Each time I made a change, I restarted my phone, if I had to make another change I restarted the phone again. Took about 2 hours each time to run through the list of suggested changes plus a combination of other checks and changes to other settings on the phone. Took me about 3 to 4 tries and also Google-searched what others said about their phones before I decided to port out.

Some mentioned they switched SIM cards from other companies into their phones and then their phones managed to call out.

After I ported out from Giga, the new Gomo SIM that I put in worked fine immediately. Full data signal plus calling out worked, with no extra settings or checks needed.

It's the physical SIM card Giga gave us (perhaps the SIM was not VOLTE-enabled or something else was wrong with the SIM card), or it's Giga's network settings that prevent us from calling and receiving calls on the phone line.

Anyway I've ported out and don't need to comment more on this after finding the fix.

Hi,

i am currently on MyRepublic 5g plan and looking to switch to Giga because while i like the myrepublic (starhub 5g) coverage, sometimes i get weird errors like iMessage and facetime is disabled for this number (i use a physical sim) as though the sim card number is no longer my number. This error tends to go away after 1 day though.

i dont really travel to SEA / taiwan so the added roaming is not really a big factor. Just want to enjoy the same 5g coverage with less weird errors.

can anyone share if
1.you face a similar problem on giga with iphone?
2. any difference in 5g user experience in crowded areas by past MR 5G users? I understand they are both starhub 5g SA but does APN configuration play any part in network prioritisation? Myrepublic APN is which is the same as starhub but i understand giga has its own APN.
3. i do travel to China for work regularly and this would be my main line. Anyone experience any issues with receiving sms and calls in countries without the free roaming data?

thanks!

@gtggtg

Non iphone user here but here's my experience with giga. i was formerly with MR and kinda regretting making the switch. My apps loads faster while I was on MR as compared to giga. I have nothing to benchmark this but base it on my own user experience.

MR 5G has coverage in major malls and buildings but I havent had any luck getting 5G anywhere with Giga even though it's a supposed 5G plan. Reached out to their customer support for areas of 5G coverage and the answer given to me was

"I am unable to give you the exact locations of where there will be 5G connections.

According to our network technicians, most populated areas will have 5G connection running."

Which is total BS cos i was in clinics, malls, hospitals and the best I'd ever gotten was 4G+

I have no answers to your question 3 as I have yet to travel to China on roaming with giga.
