If you need voice, the PRACTICAL thing to do is IGNORE everything I've written so far. Take the D-Link 5402 - it comes with a voice port. Plug in your own router into one of its LAN ports (the other end goes to one of the LAN ports in your new router, NOT to its WAN port), login to the admin page of the D-Link router and disable wifi (so you don't needlessly create wifi interference for yourself), and skip the 3,000 rewards points (which are given in lieu of the D-Link router).

The IMPRACTICAL thing to do is to still go Direct ONT, buy a voice-enabled cable modem from someone on ebay.com.sg (must be SG - this needs to be a StarHub-approved voice-enabled cable modem), call StarHub, tell them you want digital voice, pay the activation fee, give them the MAC address of the voice-enabled cable modem, plug it into your CABLE point (not the fibre point), and hope everyone got everything right so everything works.

Personally, I'd go with the practical option. But that's just me. ;-)

How is the Starhub Fibre performance for you? especially the international websites. I dont want to change partner and have different partners for different. would like to stick with one

Hi

Please pardon me for what I'm going to ask. I decided to use 3rd party router as I cannot tolerate anymore on the wireless speed of Dlink DVG-N5402SP from Starhub. I'm on VOIP with Maxinfinity, so direct connect is not an option to me. Sigh...

I bought Asus RT-N56U (N66U was out of my budget) yesterday. I upgraded the firmware to 3.0.0.4.360. After that I setup according to this set of steps:

1. Plug the router into port (1-4) of D-Link Home Gateway using a LAN connection.
2. Do a direct connection to D-Link Home Gateway with your PC/Laptop and enter (http://192.168.0.1) in your Internet Explorer.
3. Username : admin, Password : password (default).
4. Please Click on "SETUP" - > "Wireless Setup" - > "Wireless Basic" -> Uncheck on "Enable Wireless LAN Interface" -> "Apply".
5. Please Click on "ADVANCED" - > "Firewall and DMZ" - > "DMZ" -> Check on "Enable DMZ" to enable DMZ feature - > Select the WAN Port and input the IP Address of your router on "DMZ Host IP Address" -> Click on "Apply".
6. The process for Bridge Connection(DMZ) is completed.

I could not access internet and unable to go into WEB GUI via 192.168.1.1. Firstly I did not know to plug in WAN or LAN port in Asus router, secondly I used default IP address of Asus RT-N56U's (192.168.1.1) for DMZ and thirdly I had no idea whether require to change settings for Asus router.

I reset all router and try the steps in this link
Music.Photo.Life.: A StarHub MaxInfinity Situation: Use Your Own Router

I could connect to internet and done speed test but I could not entered WEB GUI via 192.168.1.1 to set security for Asus router after that.

How do you setup Dlink with Asus Rt N56U?

u should plug from dlink to wan port of Asus n56.

no settings needed on firewall or dmz.

Hi guys, I am getting my fibre broadband installed by SH in a couple of weeks time. Read through this thread and found out that DIRECT ONT is the way to go if I want to have optimal internet speed. A few questions I have here.

1) Once I request for direct ONT, do i just plug the router straight into the terminal? Or are there some settings to be done?

2) am I right to say that the drawback of using direct ONT is that digital voice will be affected?

Folks,

I just gotten my StarHub 100mnps Fibre ($39.90 per month) installed this afternoon.

DVG + Huawei boxes.

All setup by tehcnicain.

I use wireless connection a lot and I have 1 PC and 2 a laptops on most of the time.

So, is there any settings that I need to change in the DVG to optimize my fibre speed in term of wireless connection?

Thanks in advance.

Download inSSIDer, ensure you've set the router to use the least congested channel. Keep the router away from cordless phones and microwave ovens. Keep the antennae pointed outwards in a V format. Keep the router up on a pedestal rather than down on the floor. There's very little else you can do other than this, to the best of my knowledge (unless you're willing to forgo the router and put in your own - read this thread for more on "Direct ONT".

Make the Direct ONT request now, so you can get your 3,000 points (these can be used as a bill setoff). Once the CSO has noted your request, the installer won't bring along the D-Link router; you'll need your own router ready, which will be plugged in directly into the ONT. And yes, digital voice will be affected - you'll need to get a voice-enabled cable modem and plug it into your SCV connection. Inform the CSO of the same - and remember to get a StarHub-approved voice-enabled cable modem.

Hope this helps.

Question on dlink router.. I'm planning to switch from starhub cable to fibre broadband. I read about free dlink home gateway provide by starhub. Is it possible totally not to use this dlink gateway and I will buy new atas asus ac66n or apple extreme ac router? I don't need any voice ip capability and I want minimalist and not messy cable around my living room console.

$192 for a 32 inch TV. May seem like a good deal but I think the TV is really quite low end. $200 more probably can get a much more bigger and decent TV. Probably still okay value bundle.

Yes! @$48 per month to get the low end TV as free gift!

Not worth it at all.

I rather stick to $39.90. Afterall, do you need another TV at home?

Even sell it also cannot make much money out of it.

Not $48/mth lah... it's one-off $48 to get the TV...
