Strongly recommend you get your own router and go Direct ONT. The 56 is good, the 66 is better, and in my testing I've found the D-Link 865 and the Apple Extreme Gen 6 better than the 56 too.
Thanks! Starhub should do what other telcos are doing, allow the home phone to be connected to the ont directly for home calling. This allows for the flexibility of users to use their own routers... Ya most likely getting the router from Amazon to save on costs.

Could it be temporary? I've never heard of an unannounced downgrade of subscriber's plans before.

I got my fiber up last Thursday. Signed up for the 200mbps plan with free six months (which averages about $5 more per month compared to the 100mbps plan). For a couple of days I can never hit more than 105mbps up/down. Checked and swapped cabled as suggested by mr varun and found that all the cables are either cat5e or cat6. So I believe there's no problem on my end and decided to email starhub with the screen shots.

The cso replied that my 200mbps will only kick in tomorrow. So they provide a minimum 100mbps for the time being.

I have also decided to finally ditch the rg. Currently bridged to my n66u. I just want to narrow down in the event of loss connection. Check rg check router etc. I rather just check the router. The cso replied that arrangements will be made after my confirmation.

And yes I encountered mysterious loss of connection over the weekend. Everything seems connected fine based on the rg status. But totally cannot surf unless I reset ont and rg. Anyway it's been fine for more than a day so hopefully the worse is over

Yeah I got quite annoyed initially. Wasted my time and brain to figure out what went wrong. But I'd like to think this as part of growing pains. The csos that I corresponded to are helpful enough although I don't really expect instant reply. For urgent matters calling is still better. If I remember correctly, things were as bad with cable when more people started to subscribe cable broadband.

Only this time there are more parties involved. Opennet for the tp, nc for ont and isp for broadband provider. If someone screw up down the line there are so many red tapes to cut

I am still getting the issue whereby my websites will pause 2-10 seconds (web browser showing.. waiting for info.singtel.com...) before page proceeds to load.

Anyone knows if its an IPV6 issue or something?

There are many out there. I use iGetter.

Mind sharing the download manager you're using? I tried one, while it is reporting "good download numbers", somehow I don't think that is the real speed it is downloading :s22:

Same, I'd suppose it's not fixed yet.
Still on 3G tethering for now, unless I need to download larger files.

Currently my ont is in the living room together with my dlink router provided by starhub. My desktop is in my room and it is connected wirelessly. But now I want to connect using a wired connection. Is it better to leave the ont n router outside and just use a cat 5e cable from the router to my desktop or I leave the ont outside and bring the router in my room ?

both way no difference. but if your room is in a more centralized location, your mobile devices might benefit from the router in your room

Since you are going to use wired, the total distance from the TP to the computer will be fixed, so either configuration will have the same result. For aesthetic purposes though, it's better to leave the router with the ONT.

Ur getting the same issue? Its damn irritating! What did Starhub say when u called them?

Didn't bother to call actually, didn't want to waste time with the "standard troubleshooting steps" :s22:

It seems to be somewhat worse at night time when people are back home and surfing around.

Define "affordable". IMO, whether you spend $200 or $300 on a router, if it lasts you at least 2 years, the difference is effectively < the cost of a latte a month. Stretch here - it's a worthwhile investment.
