You're saying as if you can only get 100kbps at bt using starhub when in fact its more likely due to the sources. I can hit 4MB/s per torrent

hi guys, im planning to sign up starhub with galaxy tab bundle this comex. can check how is starhub speed?

basically BT, youtube, light surfing and china websites only.

please share experience. thanks.

I don't BT, so not so sure about that. Playing Fifa, my connection seems to drop off more often than my singnet adsl. The fibre connection wasn't very stable, but again could be due to my router or other issue. If you are a heavy gamer than this is something to consider. Anyway i don't game alot so didn't call up starhub to troubleshoot on this. Generally speaking, normal surfing and video streaming no problem. Do you use DNS services like Unotelly etc? Unotelly didn't work very well with my Starhub fibre, for some reason i can't get it to work every time with my Netflix. Again, no such problem on my adsl line. If Unotelly is a must for you, then i suggest you find out more before signing on the dotted line.

There are more things to look into like the router, wireless setup etc, but for me the overall experience is ok, good enough for a normal user like myself.

BitTorrent is not great for SH fibre. The default configuration will not maximise your plan, and even after tweaking, there's throttling to deal with. There's currently a buffer issue with YouTube, which affects all Internet users. Light surfing is definitely ok, except for cloudflare protected sites eg PS3Hax and totally inaccessible PSX Scene for SH fibre only. No comment for accessing China websites as I have never tried it before.

BT no go for Big 3 telcos. All limit your bandwidth for torrents and you need like Cable where you switch on your PC / Laptop overnight just to dl a movie.

I agree with you for the first sentence. By cable, you mean LAN cable? Can be confused with cable broadband.

4MB/s per torrent is acceptable, but if you are aware that the torrent is capable of higher speeds, that might mean throttling from StarHub's side.

By Cable, I mean Cable broadband era because SH throttle that until like no tomorrow. Regardless u use Wi-Fi, Cat 6 Ethernet LAN cable or whatever etc etc.....

I hv no complains hitting 6-12MB/s easily on a 150Mbps plan.

Note on the "B" used

But I cant guarantee your mileage.

it would be good if Protocol Encryption need not be enabled. I'm not really a good judge as I have used only Starhub all along, but I think VQ and probably MR too has a leg up because of the aforementioned setting.

to be honest...
i activated that for my SH Fiber because based on what i've tested so far, enabling it yields a much better down speed.

i have shared my uTorrent settings before. You can hunt for it if you want.

1. you have to calculate it yourself. Worth or not differs for different people.

2. use the free 21Mbps 1GB will do. Just don't exceed it :)

Just went to the starhub maxinfinity website and saw that there is no more maxinfinity elite 150 mbps plan that i signed up last year at $49.90. Now is 200 mbps at the same price.

Do those who signed on 150 mbps @ $49.90 get a free speed bump to 200 mbps?

Not for me :(

What about upload caps, global number of connections etc? I've only managed to hit 8MB/s on the ubuntu x64 non server edition torrent and i think I did not tweak the caps and connections properly.

router dependable. You can change the settings to a higher range if your router permits.
