Please read threads on what did I say about throttling. Stop blaming IsP when I see zero throttle leh.

Omg. Here the people really full of applause.

Can blame than blame.

throttling is very common among the ISPs here in Singapore. It's a widely known fact. I've experienced throttling speeds and even called SH to confirm that. They admitted to it over the phone call and said that it was to "ensure other users in the area are not at a disadvantage" because of my network usage.

Didn't you see people already claiming that Starhub CSO knows nothing? I have my exchange with them as well, even their level 2 engineer couldnt answer my questions at all.

The so-called well known fact is people used it to blame the ISP - usually. If I am on StarHub, my friends are as well.. it doesn't make sense that none of them are getting capped yet people on forums are whining day in day out.

Something must be wrong somewhere. Definitely not everything is ISP.

But then again, if blaming ISP is much easier than to find ways to resolve it, well.. is understandable. Most singaporeans prefers to have something to barked at. Its the easier way out.

Just being curious, how did you come to a conclusion that you are being "throttled"?

CSO knows nothing, that is a fact. I spoke to one of their technician manager. Went up many levels just to solve a single problem. in the end, it's stated in the T&Cs that they are allowed to throttle our connection if they deem it to be causing an imbalance in the network distribution in the area.

it is rather easy to test speeds and see if it's throttled. you make yourself sound rather "pro" in IT so i dont think you'll need further explanation.

used to torrent alot on starhub, but gave up on them as speeds are not worth mentioning, now switched ISP already, happily torrenting my life away, but still keep the starhub as failover.

Nah, I am no pro.

I would very much prefer an explanation on how you derived it actually.

Will you help do the honours?

I was able to access the sites earlier in the day, but not now. I don't know, maybe it has something to do with peak hour traffic, because I can't connect, or my connection gets timed out.

tried downloading the same group of torrents with 3 different telcos and different areas of singapore. results are quite clear when only 1 results out of the rest are at significantly lower speeds. >10mbps vs < 2mbps

Interesting way to determine "throttle".

Guys,

Need advise and clarification. (bit confused bout this).

Current setup: white ONT ----> Dlink DVG-N5402SP with Digital Voice

I did not realise it at all, my friend just informed me that his new fiber setup is

Huawei HG8240 (black) with Digital Voice ---> ASUS 66U

I did not know there is a new ONT available for Starhub users that has Digital Voice direct in.
How do i change my ONT?

StarHub doesn't change ONTs, to the best of my knowledge, unless you're going from no digital voice to digital voice, and you don't have the 5402. Why do you want to change ONTs? If you want better wifi, connect a better wifi router to the 5402 in AP mode and disable the wifi on the 5402. Simpler, faster, no downtime, no arguing with CSOs... ;-)
