Connecting directly to ONT

I need to run cisco equiment. Not the linsys.

Plus I can run fiber network within my house. The stupid rousy chinese brand gateway only run on FE.

And I never trust all chinese brand. And to put that trash there, it a waste of space, cannot rackmount and waste electricity.

Any luck in circumventing (not using) it yet? I just signed up for StarHub fibre, and looking forward to be able to connect to the ONT directly too.

Regards,
Paul Mah.

on/off.

don't hit the reset button!!!

Thanks man!

Some questions:
1. I manage to set it all up ( I tried on/off the RG, seems like still v0.16) it seems my DMZ is only 50mbps while if connect directly to the rg I can go up to 100mbps (via cat6 cable on 1Gbps port)
2. I am using the same router as you, DIR-855. On your DIR-855 side, you chose Static IP and key in 192.168.1.1 (for your case) for both gateway and DNS?
3. Did you enabled DHCP on the RG side as well as on the DIR-855 side?

Wow. so many qns. haha
ok here it goes...

1. call starhub to get them to push the v22 fw in.. else wait for approx 3 days and restart it.
2. I chose static.. yes, i keyed in the huawei ip
3. yes dhcp is controlled by my 855. Reason being: i have no wish to connect anything on the huawei router.so huawei 1 is disabled

When I plugged my desktop directly to the RG LAN port and set my IP address manually on my desktop, I can get 100mbps full speed, but going through my router (DIR-855), the speed drop to 70mbps.

It seems that the only difference with mine and your setup seems to be the v16 (mine) vs v22 (yours). I also did the DMZ thingy on your first post and I can access my NAS from outside, so it works fine.

Any thoughts or slightest hint of the speed drop via my router?

thanks bro, really appreciate this!

settings on your DIR-855, 1000Mbps?

tried your speedtest on both speedtest.net & http://broadbandspeedtest.starhub.com/speedtest/?

Yeap both PC and DIR-855 is 1Gbps (verified). tried both speedtest.net and SH one, not much difference.

I will try swapping the cable.

My settings as follows:

Huawei RG IP: 192.168.2.1
Huawei RG LAN: 192.168.2.2 (LAN Port 1) (DMZ)
Huawei RG DHCP: Off

Dlink DIR-855 Router IP: 192.168.3.1
Dlink DIR-855 DHCP : On
Dlink DIR-855 Internet: Static
Dlink DIR-855 WAN IP: 192.168.2.2
Dlink DIR-855 Gateway: 192.168.2.2
Dlink DIR-855 DNS (Pri/Sec): 192.168.2.2

I will print some screenshots tonight when I get home =)

Dear all, just got my Starhub ONT / Huawei HG installed. Will be using my current Asus RT N56U for wifi with setup as below:

(ONT) LAN Port 1 -> (HG256s) WAN Port
(HG256s) LAN Port 1 -> (Asus-RT N56U) WAN Port

Anyone using the same setup as mine? Appreciate any advice what other settings I need to configure.

Many thanks!

Sorry for the noob question, but will that be doing double NATing? or DMZ prevents double NATing?

I see, thanks a lot for your help =)

btw, for the earlier response..

set to DHCP on huawei then connect 855 via dhcp..

copy down the ip & etc,

then set back to disable dhcp on huawei and static connect 855 via the ip copied.

easiest for you

then hopefully you will know what went wrong :)
