oh, cause my connection is:
Fibre Point->Huawei HG863->Huawei HG256s->PC

I have read several threads in this forum but dun see anyone posting abt this HG863 only about HG256. So what is this HG 863 thing?

HG863 is a bridge-mode ONT, all traffics should be passed thru

if there is any NAT/routing/port forwarding/filtering will be done by your Residential Gateway which is HG256

Thinking of getting another router, any recommendations?

Note: I wan to bridge the RG not the router as the RG is quite limited in functions

Limited functions, like what? It has all the features a router should have.

Besides, that old linksys antique, even if I give u the steps, you will be bottlenecked by it instead.

Well, maybe my wrong choice of words, but I'm not used to using the huawei device so prefer to use any other linksys device. And i do know the bottleneck issue as I read alot of posts in here, just want to give it a try.

For me, I prefer to buy Asus RT-N56u than EnGenius ESR-9850 because it has better wireless bandwidth than EnGenius as shown on website's reviews.

not auto, have to call in to activate for 1st time. after that can toggle on and off at your own end.

hmm not sure why it was suddenly activated tonight (just got maxinifinity last week) and i couldn't access certain websites that i could previously.

while waiting for the maxinfinity staff to get back to me, i managed to disable the safesurf online here: http://www.starhub.com/broadband/vas/safesurf/enable_disable.html
