If you suspect your router may have problems, you can go buy a 2nd hand cheap used router from Carousell.com to replace your current router & you should then have proper working Internet connection.

IT'S THAT SIMPLE.

Over the years, I've used MANY MANY routers.
From personal experience, routers RARELY / SELDOM spoil and some routers can last for (many) years.

MAJORITY of the time people changed routers is because people want to use a router with better specs -- NOT because of current router spoil.

(If after changing router you still have problems with the Starhub Internet, AT LEAST you know you've tried to eliminate the possibility of a currently faulty router by repacing it with another router.)

Just FYI, maybe you can go read this thread:
http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/i...t-intermittent-disconnection-etc-5528184.html

There are about 15 pages in the above thread.

Started by a frustrated Starhub user, who spent a lot of time trying to diagnose his Starhub Internet connection -- including changing routers.

Some things mentioned in the above thread may not be useful or apply to you -- but it's additional feedback / info from another Starhub Internet user for our reference.

Hi, tkx for the info and advise, really appreciate it!

upgraded my dlink 850l to linksys wrt1900ac (no need to do direct ONT or anything, i just plug and play)
LAN speedtest from 800~ mbps (download) and 400~mbps (upload) instantly increase

6065107818.png

WIFI speedtest fluctuate depending on where i am at home, if in living room(where the router is), can hit 100-150mbps up/down on my phone/laptop, if in my room, hit around 30-50mbps up/down

dlink is indeed a rubbish router:s13::s13:
but again the wrt1900ac has access point isolation issues, i.e if u have a chromecast (on 2.4ghz wifi), u cannot cast to it from devices on ur 5ghz wifi:s22::s22:
not bad can setup "cloud" storage also, accessible from outside networks via vpn
should have changed router long ago

iirc i think asus router need to call starhub to do direct ONT
if wrt1900ac just need to set the mac address to the same mac address as the router starhub gave to u
just follow this but skip the part that configures the VLAN (actually just skip everything and do step 9 to 11)

if u want wrt1900acs (newest model), i got mine wrt1900ac (rev 1) from carousell

still thinking if i should install openwrt (not sure if that can solve the AP isolation issue)

You're comparing a SGD$168 (USD$120) router to a SGD$53 (USD$37) router.

See Linksys WRT1900AC price on Amazon.com:
http://amzn.to/2lZM6y1

See DIR-850L price on Amazon.com:
http://amzn.to/2kVhixE

The WRT1900AC is MORE THAN 3 times the price of DIR-850L.

Of course you would expect the WRT1900AC to perform much better than the DIR-850L.

All router brands has good & bad products.

Linksys has it's far share of low end / cheap & rubbish router products too.

**
What is obvious but yet not stated often enough is...
- Many Starhub users have the DIR-850L router because it is FREE when they sign up Starhub Internet.

In other words, many Starhub users DID NOT buy the DIR-850L router because it is a good high-end router.

Many Starhub subscribers use the DIR-850L router simply because -- it is FREE.

The DIR-850L is one of the cheapest Wireless AC router; by bundling it keeps Starhub's cost low (& maximise profits).

IMHO, it is a bit ridiculous to be using a 1Gbps Internet connnection everyday -- while connected using a low end (low performamce) router like the DIR-850L.

and u are right, 1gbps subscription but low end router is ridiculous

Why asus need to request for direct ONT but not the linksys ? Asus also have the clone MAC address func what.

Not sure also, I read that somewhere months/years ago, just sharing my experience with the wrt1900ac, quite easy to setup but like I said, downside is the AP isolation issue, other than that I think the wrt1900ac is quite a decent router, I got it second hand for $130

I also same situation as you. Told me cable tv will be turned off by end of this year and everybody will be asked to switch to fibre tv. Got free switch, cabling and data point installation now so I signed up and convert to fibre tv. So far no lag yet. Impossible if fibre network is down, still can use fibre tv. What happens is port 1 from ONT is currently connected to your router. So a LAN cable is connected to port 2 of ONT to the switch and then to the Samsung boxes.

Also upgraded to Homehub 1000 but was in Dec. I rejected the 868L as I'm still using it and still working fine. While processing my application, he gave me another offer. 50% off the subscription but no free 6 months and no router. Works out to be cheaper for 24 months and signed this promo instead. Asked him why I was not informed of this promo and he said it was emailed to me but probably I forgot about it.
i called in and ask.. bo 50% off 24months subscription le

This offer was given to me at the shop when he was processing my renewal using the normal promo. He saw this offer in my account and hence able to offer to me.

Just upgraded to 1GB plan and decided to use my Asus RT-AC68U (firmware 3.0.0.4.380_7266) on it. For some reason the old dlink dir-868L can detect and get the settings from starhub with auto ip but on the asus it doesn't work with the error "your isp DHCP does not function properly".
I have to manually put in the IP address, gateway, subnet and dns (from the dlink) to work.

Anyone else having this issue or its just me?

Found a workaround, i had to clone my PC LAN Card's MAC into my RT-AC68U to get the ip settings from the ISP. Gonna call starhub to ask what's up as its supposed to be direct ONT for me.

Firstly, you need to call Starhub to confirm whether you're already on directly ONT or not.

If you're not on direct ONT, perhaps you should request Starhub to change you to direct ONT.

If you're already on direct ONT, BY RIGHT you can use ANY router without the need to do any MAC address cloning.

If somehow, you're not on direct ONT, then of course you likely need to do MAC address cloning -- when changing to use new router.

Also, Starhub sometimes ... has this problem whereby:
- If you do DHCP request many times (in a short period) using different devices...

Starhub may (temporarily) stop issuing a (new) IP address to your different devices (w/ different MAC addresses).

What could cause you to do multiple DHCP requests within a short period using DIFFERENT MAC addresses?

Some examples:
- You power off router, connect your notebook/PC to do direct ONT test.
- You don't like the speedtest result, then change to a 2nd notebook to do direct ONT speedtest.
- Then power off 2nd notebook, switch back to using old router to double confirm speedtest on old router.
- Later upgrade/change old router to a new router.
- The new router don't seems to work well, so you on/off your router repeatedly to try to get things to work.

The correct way to do things is that EACH TIME BEFORE you want to change router (or want to connect notebook to ONT to do test)...

You need to do at the old router -- a DHCP release BEFORE power off old router.

If you have ALREADY directly connected your notebook to ONT to do testing, you should do a DHCP release at the notebook BEFORE disconnecting the notebook.

99.9% of people DON'T do this.

This may be why sometimes...
- When you connect a new router you can't seems to get a (new) IP address from Starhub,
- BUT YET when you connect back old router (or do MAC address clone), you can get an IP address from Starhub.

This issue has been mentioned before.

Hope the above helps.

ok this is new to me, thanks for the information.

btw anyone knows how to release DHCP on my RT-AC68U?

Also what's the best way forward for my case? Wait for the current lease to expire than connect my RT-AC68U without clone mac?

so yes thank you boonkang, you were right about the mac address thing. hopefully thats the last time i have to face such an issue.

But some how using same lan and Asus router to try dL speed
M1 200fibre vs hub 1gb fibre
I feel m1 betterspeed using same dL link

Do hope hub improve on tits fibre
