Finally, this last result is via wireless from my room which is not far from living room.

May i know why are the results so drastic? I am using maxinfinity 100mbps with the dlink router provided. What do i need to boost it to maximum capability?

change router :s13:

There is alot of reasons why people are willing to invest good $ for a better router.

N5402SP is a 300Mbps wireless router
DIR-600 is a 150Mbps wireless router

go figure?

do a constant ping and determine if your wireless ping is consistent and no packets drops.

changing the following might help as well
1. encryption type to AES-PSK
2. channel
3. 40MHz
4. n only.

and others.

What is the trick to get it to work at 40 MHz? I can only get it to work (I can see it in inSSIDer) when I switched on auto-scan but even then, my laptop's Intel 6235 refuses to connect any faster (no change in reported speed nor testing using speed test or file transfer to NAS). The asus routers look more and more tempting...

*edit*

Okay, the 6235 was configured to use 20 MHz channels for 2.4 GHz only. After changing that, I see a minor speed bump. Disappointing to say the least. I still can't get it to work when configuring the channel manually.

Advice given by StarHub : "If you are facing slow speed via WiFi, I would recommend wired connection to the Home Gateway."

Re: Voice of customer - dissatisfied with DVG-N540... - Page 7 - StarHub Community - 5288

StarHub reply on the router provided: "We would like to share that most of our fibre broadband customers subscribe to our Digital Voice Home service. For their convenience, we currently offer D-Link DVG-N5402SP, an all-in-one home gateway for data, voice and wireless home networking.

Due to hardware complexities and longer renewal cycle of all-in-one routers, we are aware that some dedicated router models may come with better specifications. Please rest assured that we hear your feedback and are actively exploring ways to offer our broadband customers an improved surfing experience. Stay tuned for more updates."

You are not alone in getting less than ideal speed. I performed an experiment and the wireless speed is significantly lower as compared to that of my TP-link router (TL-WR941ND, via bridging). Test results below are performed using same conditions (distance from router, laptop, around the same thing of the day etc) except for the router used.

TP-link router (TL-WR941ND, via bridging)
Last Result: Download Speed: 69700 kbps (8712.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Last Result: Download Speed: 68689 kbps (8586.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Last Result: Download Speed: 67563 kbps (8445.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Last Result: Download Speed: 71461 kbps (8932.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Dlink router
Last Result: Download Speed: 23108 kbps (2888.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Last Result: Download Speed: 19968 kbps (2496 KB/sec transfer rate)
Last Result: Download Speed: 22131 kbps (2766.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
