Hi,

I've got a question.. Is it normal to have huge gap of download / wifi speed for desktop and laptop? Given both machines are in the same spot connecting to the same router D-Link DVG-N5402SP, both with firewall and anti-virus off.

I just did a speedtest for both of them. 5mpbs for desktop, 50-60mpbs for my laptop.
Many factors,

Ur desktop wifi card antenna poor reception? Is it a N wifi card? Specs of desktop cannot handle the load needed by speedtest?

Off the record, the Dlink RG might be the culprit. Lots of issues. I personally went to do a bridge to my own router on day 1, use few hours can see how chui it is liao

Now I got SH to give me direct ONT and I connected my own router direct to ONT. Remove the Dlink RG altogether

The supplied dlink is not too bad but is nothing to shout about. Get ur own router u should see aBT 10-20% improvement.. but if u getting the cheapo regular stuffs then it's abt the same. Relocating ur router may get better results.

Or deploy wifi antennas at spots where u normally will use ur Internet. Home plug is a convenient way to do it. But if you can, deploy Ethernet cables to those spots and connect it to a wifi gateway

Just dun get wifi repeaters as they might congest the airspace more.

I am using home plug to deploy a wifi antenna next to my bed. Already can see the massive improvement when I access the Internet on my phone on the bed

Unable to connect at HDB EM apartment

Dear all,

Very new here, hence hope someone can help me out.

Just installed the 150mps maxinfinity elite plan yesterday. Router is D-link DVG-N5402SP.

Works fine downstairs (i stay HDB EM) - speed was 65mps

However, when i go upstairs, i can't connect or even so, it's agonizingly slow at a constant 1.0mps

My room is upstairs. Hence, is there any way to boost the speed? Thanks

Brother best solution is to hard wire upstairs and bridge another router upstairs. So router A is ur dlink by SH and a bridged router upstairs router B.

Next solution is use network plugs with wifi...but this is hit and miss not always it works where u want.

Em run wire not difficult can use balcony there up or near stairs there go up.

Where ur router now? At living room?

direct cable or bridge the Dlink router with a better router or remove the Dlink router, clone its MAC and use the better router.

thanks bro for replying. router is currently at living room (downstairs) due to the opennet casing proximity.

1. Plug the router into port (1-4) of D-Link Home Gateway using a LAN connection.
2. Do a direct connection to D-Link Home Gateway with your PC/Laptop and enter (http://192.168.0.1) in your Internet Explorer.
3. Username : admin, Password : password (default).
4. Please Click on "SETUP" - > "Wireless Setup" - > "Wireless Basic" -> Uncheck on "Enable Wireless LAN Interface" -> "Apply".
5. Please Click on "ADVANCED" - > "Firewall and DMZ" - > "DMZ" -> Check on "Enable DMZ" to enable DMZ feature - > Select the WAN Port and input the IP Address of your router on "DMZ Host IP Address" -> Click on "Apply".
6. The process for Bridge Connection(DMZ) is completed.

***I got this steps from http://community.starhub.com/t5/Max...d-with-DVG-N5402SP-WIFI-speed/td-p/5288/page/

Hey guys, im currently on maxonline express bill about $38 monthly, my contract is up, should I continue or change to another plan that uses fibre? or a faster connection with cable? i went to check the SH page and got mindfugged after reading 2 page, abit confused.

StarHub - Broadband - Home Broadband

StarHub - Broadband - Package Builder for Broadband

IMO: go use fibre and never look back.

wait for the coming IT Show maybe will have 150Mbps @ $49 per/mth

Reset router and modem. Wireless speed slow. Ping 90ms. Download 10mbps Upload 24mbps.
After reset will be ping 10ms DL42mbps UL 52mbps.

Let's see after few hrs will be same or not...it will slow down after awhile.

Connecting directly to my N56U. Was out at work so did not really experience downtime. But seems it takes just a few hours for them to untag.
