Paiseh...its a 2011 Macbook Air with a AirPort Extreme Wifi-Card (Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.106.98.100.17)) and supported PHY Modes: 802.11 a/b/g/n

Macbook Air can connect to the D-Link which is indeed set to N-only. Unless the GUI cock up?

I believe that could be a problem with the adapter. I've had another wireless adapter which always connected at wireless g instead of n, no matter what I did.

Gribber, my S4 also gets 54mbps.

Guys I wonder if its due to this:

Symptoms

You may notice that if you have wirelessly connected your 802.11n-capable computer or other device to your 802.11n router or Wi-Fi Base Station that your data rate will not go above 54 Mbps (megabits per second) despite the fact that you appear to have a strong signal. This should only occur if your router or Wi-Fi Base Station password authentication type is WEP or WPA.

Resolution

This behavior is normal. It happens because the maximum transfer rate for 802.11n using WEP or WPA (TKIP) authentication is 54 Mbps, as specified in the IEEE 802.11n standard.

AirPort: Slow 802.11n connection speed when connected using older WEP or WPA security mechanisms

At work now. Will check tonight.

Can I ask if I want to use ASUS RT-N66U (best recommended around), instead of the DVG-N5402SP (original provided D-Link router), do I need to contact 1633 or I can just replace the router?

If need to ask them, why do we need to inform? Cannot just change the router? Or I'm missing anything?

Either. But diff configurations is required for either options

Unless you're comfortable with VLAN configurations, it's best to call them, tell them you want to go Direct ONT, and that's that. In 2-3 days, your Internet connection through the 5402 will stop working, at which point you know it's time to turn off the 5402 and plug in your N66U. No configuration required when plugging in in Direct ONT mode. (BTW, they're supposed to call you when the Direct ONT provisioning is complete; and they do call, but you'll probably discover that you're ready when you wake up one morning without access... ;-) ).

I'm running in Direct ONT on an Apple Extreme Gen 6 - happy with my decision.

Thanks all, just wish to confirm before putting $$$ down on RT-N66U. Guess I'll be calling and ask for Direct ONT - it's going to be faster too right? The yellow fibre cable connect to N66U?

The thing is, despite the excitement today, I still don't have fibre, waiting for them to do something backend as the trooper who came earlier today "suspected" that the router assigned to my unit has problems, so changed to another router that he brought. Called 1633 to quickly say still need MaxOnline don't cancel. :( Till now still waiting for the "signal" to come in.

Hold it right there. The yellow fibre cable has to connect to your ONT before it can connect to the N66U router.

May I know what is the estimated download speed if I'm using asus n66u router to asus n53 usb adapter from living room to study room? Thanks.

If it's less than 100mbps, not much point for me to subscribe the 200mbps plan...

If 2.4GHz... Confirmed less then 100Mbps..
If 5 Ghz... > 100Mbps

But from what u describe... Living room to study room.. Wall between.... 5Ghz bandwidth dont work well with wall between....

Ok finally got my fibre working :D
Using the supplied Dlink router, on 3-metre Cat 5e LAN Cable.
The best result out of a few I tested.
