you will need to do the following.
Reset router. Did it connect?
Use another pc or laptops connect lan does it wotk?
Change cable does it work?
If all no you need new router.

if you cannot connect your ONT via lan, you need to call up CSO. Maybe they have not yet do direct ont for you.

Thanks! I've changed the cable already and still having the same problem. Will call cso when available.

even though if the 2.4Ghz channels are congested?

It's like a forest. The tallest tree gets the most sunlight.
Put this into a networking perspective and powerful routers like Asus's N56U and above can easily beat the other typical bundled routers provided by the ISPs in terms of signal strength.

The N56U is sufficient for your needs. AC56U is only useful if you have a AC compatible wireless card or adapter. The N66U is just more icing on the cake, and since you are living in a small HDB flat, you don't have to worry about poor coverage.

Thanks, I will keep a lookout for any promotional prices for either N56U or N66U in this coming tech show in Dec. Maybe will also check if there is any black friday deals too in the US. If the price plus shipping is much cheaper, then I may consider getting from the US. :)

One thing that you have to take note of is the power plug. They probably ship it with the US power plug.

Hi all,

I am subscribed to the Starhub 100M fibre plan, but most of the time I am only able to get 20M - 40M via my laptop through wi-fi.

Thus I am thinking of upgrading the router (currently I am using the default old router from SH). I have browsed through the forum and a lot of users are recommending the ASUS RT-N66U ($239).

But the guy at the tech show recommended me the RT-AC56U (which selling at $259). There is also a cheaper model RT-N56U at $159 (almost $100 cheaper).

I am living in a small HDB 3 room about 69sqm, so can anyone advise me which ASUS model should I considered and what are the main differences. If their speed are all about the same, then I would love to buy the cheaper one though, as budget constraint. Thanks all.

Do take note that your wireless adapter also play.

Based on my experience, even you get ASUS RT-AC66u, to operate behind a wall, the average speed you get will be around 50 mbps to 70 mbps.

Even you are using a AC wireless adapter with a AC router, you can only achieve near to 100 mbps at line of sight, once behind a wall, the signal may go down to around 50 mbps or worse.

It all depends what you going to use with your laptop, if you are just surfing the net, playing fb games, reading email or watching HD youtube, rest assure, you may not see any difference between 20 mbps and 100 mbps.

I don't think it is worth to spend more than $200 to just please yourself with the speedtest result.

Thanks for your advise. I will consider on that. But when I watch youtube videos the streaming is always lagging, so I am not sure if it is the speed that is the main cause of concern.

Also, I just check and found out that my current laptop only supports 2.4Ghz wireless band, and the support staff also told me that most laptops/notebooks support only 2.4Ghz rather than 5Ghz wireless band.

So my concern here is even I bought the dual band ASUS router, does it really help to beef up the wifi speed, because my notebook only support 2.4Ghz. If I want to maximize the capabilities of the ASUS router, does it mean I need to get a external adapter which can support dual band then?

Confused...

Yes, you need a dual band adapter but take note that the 5 ghz offer you a higher speed but the range is shorter, and also the signal is badly affect by wall.

Starhub DNS acting flaky ... again.
Switching to Google DNS ... again.

Maybe I should leave it at this setting all the time.

what happened to it ?

Mm. Some pages couldn't load, FB, HWZ, others were intermittent. S4 kept connecting and disconnecting over wifi, but over 3G or LTE was fine.

So I changed the setting on the router to point to Google's DNS. They say there might be some issues with geolocation services, or Akamai caching, or whatever, so far seems ok.

Will monitor over the next day(s) or so.

You have IPv6 running? Symptoms typical to ipv6 on starhub

is it dir865L router problem? my mbp after upgraded to mavericks os sometimes cannot detect 5ghz. If I reset black ont and dir865L router, my mbp can detect/connect to 5ghz.

is asus ac router can be used for starhub fibre?

if you are using dir 865l now, that mean you already on direct ONT, you can connect to any router you like

Yesterday night and today, the internet has been really slow.
Maybe I should try changing the DNS too.

Hi all

Have problem with Starhub Fibre, on Home Hub 200mbps, connect to ONT port 1, using cat 6 lan cable.

Strange that the download speed is so slow.
