Is there a possibility m1 not available anything above 2gbps but starhub can support 5 gbps installation?

That is possible. M1 is late to upgrade the backend to support XGS-PON based 3Gbps/6Gbps/10Gbps plans. M1 seems to be the only ISP which has such problem now.

All the other ISPs are supposed to be ready for the deployment of XGS-PON based plans.

BTW, NLT Fibre infrastructure was ready for 10Gbps plan deployment long ago. When they mention NLT capacity problem, it usually means man power problem (not enough staff to support the Fibre Terminal port checkup and activation), not Fibre infrastructure problem.

Yes. My place can use starhub 5Gbps but M1 website say my place not ready for 3Gbps and above.

When the government announced the plan, I believe NLT was already fully ready from an infrastructure perspective. It was just subsidy or grants for OLT upgrades to the ISPs.

Indeed. It is more for the ISPs to upgrade their stuff --> ONT/ONR on the customer side, OLT and other backend infrastructure on the ISP's side.

Just went down to starhub shop to recontract from current 2gbps to 5gbps plan, contract ended yesterday. Make appointment on 23Jan for them to come down to swap ONT. The shop say can only recontract to ONT option, ONR option is not in their system to recontract. $29.55 nett with no extra fees. Those keen on ONT can try the recontract option, seamless. Bought 2x HB710 from them also.

Interesting.

I think there is another similar report as yours that the 5Gbps offer at S$29.55 per month ONR option is not available in the Starhub store, only the ONT option available in store.

That is nice to hear as this HB710 can support up to 10Gbps so in future upgrade do not need to change routers again. Good Deal. I hope the price war can get more serious with better offer like MR $49/mth.

Starhub is finally understanding customers want a fuss free ONT plan at around 30/month, and do not need to bundle in good wireless routers for free.

Based on the discussion here, for people who want the speed or even WiFi 7, they are wiling to buy the devices outright, and ISP does not need to subsidise it in the monthly price. Also best to not ONR for everyone and leave customer no choice, let customer decide for themselves.

👍 to starhub for understanding this

My router just GG yesterday, on the last day of contract so I do need a router. At first want to sign up ONR option to tong for next 2 years but after seeing all the speed test here and compare with my own, decide to just go for a better setup.

The HB710 setup should last you for next 4 years, since WiFi 8 is not likely to come about so soon at a reasonable price, with large number of client devices supporting it.

Anecdotally, got the WiFi 5 in 2017 and used it until 2021 before switching to WiFi, and likely to switch to WiFi 7 in 2025 (this year) once more client devices have support for it.

Just setup my 2 units of HB710, my corner of the house from unable to use WiFi due to weak signal to now up to 800mbps speed test. My fibre is still max 940mbps so that is really a excellent result. 1 unit of the HB710 has better coverage than my previous Linksys MX4200, I can actually survive with 1 unit but 2 units really give me solid coverage throughout my house.

I gt a promotion from starhub
UltraSpeed 5Gbps ONR, they arrange to come my house install next week

They offer me $30

Is it really good?

I am currently using MaxInfinity 500Mbps

will it be a good jump to 5 GBPS? does it also provide 2.4 GHZ?

Of course every router got 2.4 and 5 Ghz wifi. Based on the report here of course good and the price is good too.

I think there will be a improvement even with the ONR but don't expect too much. Even I stand right in front of my WiFi 6 router also get 600mbps only. By right your current internet speed top out at 470mbps so you won't see a very significant boost. You really need to use a WiFi 7 or wired connection to get more than 1gbps.

What is your WiFi 6 client used for testing?

If your WiFi 6 client and router supports 160MHz channel bandwidth, you should be able to get >1Gbps wireless speed at close range.

Nokia XS-2426X-A ONR (AX6000 wireless) does support 160MHz channel bandwidth. Henry Ng mentioned that he could get up to 1.6Gbps WiFi speed using the ONR.

It is because you are not using a wifi 6 laptop to connect. With a Intel AX201 wifi 6 160 Mhz, already can get 1500 Mbps easily at 3m away. Router must set to 160 Mhz.
