I bought 300+ lots at average 2.7 using CPF OA

Now yielding 4%, better than OA 2.5%

Will get some capital gains too.

Why can't Singaporeans just say number of shares instead of lots here and there?

I regret - average price 2.89

But what to do

Look forward like anything else in life

One of my investing 'weaknesses' was a reluctance to buy more if the price is more than my average price, so during the last GFC, I didn't continue buying as as the STI rose toward 3,000

This time, I'm looking at making money and not just keeping my average price down. So when 3,000 looked likely, I started buying more in the 2.80-2.85 region even though it caused my average buying price to go up... because as long as less than $3, its still a profit!

Of course, now that its more than $3, I've stopped buying. In 2020, I picked up 27.3k of ES3. Could have bought more, but decided to deploy to foreign ETFs instead.

if you buy $100k at $2.89, its still better than the guy who only buy 3,000 shares at $2.70. since he was using CPF, he should have gone all in! :s13:

Yes! Daring to average up is something I learnt last year. 1 share with a 100% increase from a low cost basis is not better than 1000000 of the same shares with 10% increase at a higher cost basis.

It's nice when you timed the bottom well. It gives a slight feeling of boosting the ego. But what's next? Are you never ever gonna add because you had the 'best' price, don't want to ruin it and hence will never be able to harvest future upcoming profits from the current 'non-best' price? Losing some profits because you averaged up, is better than losing ALL profits because you didn't invest.

Of course, I am not saying 'just blindly average up', you will need to weigh upside vs downside.

AUM for ES3 is at 1.7 billion now..
it was barely 800million at this point last year. 1billion increase over last 12 months.. indeed many investors have loaded up holdings in the etf

Smart monies parked here, anticipate rise of the index.
