buying STI ETF under $3 will give you a 'margin of safety' =:p

I keep my average price of STI ETF under $3, and just hold and collect dividends.

I agree with you. I think in your case you have substantial portion is equities and not much in debt. So within equities, you choose "safe" high dividend yield and more riskier growth, kind of complementing each other.

In my case I have substantial amounts of "safe" fixed income. Equity part is only 35%. So I think that equity portion, I should allocate to more growth markets like Asia and US.

Just your wrong timing.

It is not that bad for us who bought at $2.3x-$2.4x in March/April + $0.099 dividend collected since Aug 2020 .

I thought the same in Jan 2020 and got into STI and then it was a brutal shock. There is no such thing as safety in equity. Might as well invest for growth.

Have you compared how much other indices have gone up since Mar?

Singapore should be a safe harbor as it has a low correlation with U.S. interest rates and has been a marked underperformer.”

Singapore’s equity gauge has dropped 5.6% over the last year versus a 2% gain in Southeast Asia’s benchmark and the 30% surge in the MSCI Asia Pacific Index.

Wah these similar arguments again. STI rise a bit then it feels like it's golden age is coming. Don't forget though, it's the one index which hasn't recovered to precovid levels.

As to correlation to i/r. Don't know how much to believe that. One thing I'm sure though is that sentiments are greatly influenced by the US market, so to be independent of US i/r...

Institutions in
Retail outflow :o

In February, the STI generated a 1.7% total return, led by Singapore Airlines (+21%), SATS (+14%), Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (+9%) and the trio of Banks. The three banks reported FY20 results and moved in unison over the month, each gaining 6%.

DBS, OCBC and UOB making up 40% of the STI weights, have now consistently reported more than S$5 billion in quarterly Net Interest Income for the past three years. The trio also ended their FY20 with an average Return on Equity Ratio of 8%, above the 7% median for global banks and Asia Pacific banks.

Combined, in the 2021 YTD, the 30 STI stocks saw S$142 million of net institutional inflow, S$368 million of net retail outflow, with market makers and liquidity providers contributing the balancing inflow of S$226 million. Combined, the trio of banks saw S$635 million of net institutional inflows over the two months.
