Nowdays my style is to reinvest the dividend on the XD date first using my own money before the actual dividend is in my bank. I noticed that price will gradually go back up by the time the dividend is in.

good practice. I used to do that until the dividends get slightly too big compared to my spare cash

How long have u started this method and how is your portfolio going so far?
i switch over from g3b/a35/iwda few years back. so started roughly 7 yrs now. according to my tracker avg capital gain is 4.7%p.a. I reinvested all dividends collected and rebalance twice yearly.

If dividend was not reinvested, the total gain would be 6.52%p.a.

not a bad idea. ES3 or G3B can be used for Banks and REITs exposure. since there is no withholding tax in singapore and our banks and REITs are of good quality.

MBH gives stable yield without FX risk. (SGD tend to appreciate over long run)

How about ES3 / MBH / QQQ? So ES3 for dividend and QQQ for growth

Newbie here

Does it mean I can buy ES3 with more than 35% of CPF OA?

If I bought 100k of ETF today and sell them at 110k 3 years later, can I use the 110k to buy HDB?

buying STI ETF under $3 will give you a 'margin of safety' =:p

I keep my average price of STI ETF under $3, and just hold and collect dividends.

100% agree. Anyway, this forum has a good quote post function so its easy to pull up my earlier posts!

Good to see that I added 27,300 STI ETF to my portfolio in 2020 but as I mentioned, I also bought foreign ETFs for diversification.

yup, good to see my own posts to remind me how much STI ETF I bought in 2020! I haven't bought any since then because I only buy STI ETF when its under $3 😅

Yes, it was also quite an experience for people experiencing a bear market for the first time similar to the GFC.

I remember I bought STI ETF from $2.80 all the way down to $2.40, and it was quite difficult as you did not know how low more it was going to drop to. (but not as pro as limster, only around 5000 shares, hoot 1000 shares every time go down by 10 cents)

Even though logic tells you that you should deploy as much as you can, at that time I also lost my job due to covid and then see my portfolio down 30-50k, yet you tell yourself you should buy more, but still you won't dare to buy more.

On hindsight, I wished that I would have bought more and kind of regret it, but when you experience the situation when it comes it is a totally different experience.

Now who knows when the next similar crisis-like bear market would come again.. maybe at least 10 years from now.. but by then as my portfolio would be larger, I might see it go down by 100k or more, and I wonder if I would still have the same mental fortitude to continue buying.

I was lucky to have a pile of cash ready. Told myself that was it. My last chance for that pot of gold. Went in aggressively. Dip lower than where I bought but all was good by sep 2020
