To make the Y580 run faster, yes, coz the HDD seems to be the bottleneck in speed wise. Typical SSDs currently range from $120 to $190 for 120GB/128GB and $255 to $345 for 240GB/256GB SSDs. I would advise getting Crucial M4 256GB SSD at $270 (PCThemes). Else u can also use the HDD, just add a 128GB/256GB msata SSD in the msata slot (beside the HDD slot) and boot from the msata SSD.

Hi guys, I'll be getting my Acer Aspire One 725 2moro. Already got the Kingston 4GB to replace the stock 2GB. I am looking to get the Crucial M4 64GB or the Samsung 830 128gb both with transfer kit.

Anyone knows if sls has the one with the laptop transfer kit and the price range? I'd appreciate it if anyone could provide me links to upgrade the AO725.
Any other opinions also appreciated. Thanks. :)

I'm a noob at this ssd thing.

Is this fast or slow for a Crucial M4 256GB SSD. or ok. Bought it cause my WD 1tb green kept hanging while playing diablo3 until I cannot tahan already.

Best part is I did all the hdd scans on the 1tb WD Green and cannot find anything wrong with it.

Oh and I think I plugged it into the white port of this motherboard Asus P8H67-M PRO which should mean Its Sata 6 right? cause theres supposed to be only 2 sata 6 ports. and 4 sata 3 ports.

I did both SATA2 and SATA3 test above ... you can do a comparison.

wonder if I should post here or the Win8 sub forum.

basically I want to have a clean install of Win8 on my Crucial M4 128G ssd.

the sdd is now a clone of my then Win7, which in my opinion, the performance is more or less the same as my then harddisk Win7. I don't see any significant decrease in bootup time. This could probably due to the bad cloning procedure.

I had previously meddled with my BIOs in hope to tweak the performance, however it didn't help much either.

I am now thinking of giving my SSD a clean install of Win8 and would like to know whether should I do anything to my BIOs, in order to get the most optimal performance? Or procedures to prepare my SSD and PC to install the new OS.

Thanks.

PS: I am using a Gigabyte MB, will furnish the exact model when I'm home, if it is necessary.

Hi

I just bought crucial M4 128GB SSD. After installation, the start up is super fast. But shutting down also super slow. Sometime 5min to shut down.
Anyone encounter this problem after switching from normal harddisk to SSD ?

sata cables are standard, there is no difference btw sata 1, 2 and 3 cables (in terms of connectivity).
