Didn't buy SSD from Newegg, bought G Skill RAM which Amazon does not carry. =:p=:p

For me, no preference. I will buy from whoever is either cheaper or more convenient. If Amazon had the item at the same price or cheaper, I would probably buy from Amazon instead, since I could just buy direct without using a concierge service.

Someone should start a service to claim the mail-in rebates. That would benefit a lot of us. :D

A newbie question here, will there be any GST charge when the SSD arrive from oversea?

If the product price + shipping cost exceeds S$400, even by 1 cent, there will be a GST charge.

In brief,

product price + shipping cost > S$400, GST applies.

Happy shopping. :D

GST is only charged for packages declared as S$400 and above, and even then depends on your luck as sometimes customs lazy and don't check.

Sometimes, customs will be more anal and count CIF value: Cost + Insurance + Freight. In other words, the total cost including shipping cannot exceed S$400.

But most of the time, they only see the declared value. :s22::s22::s22:
(I know this very well since I receive at least 6 packages from overseas EVERY month)

Kingston SSDNow V+100 Review
I'm not sure what it is about SSD manufacturers and overly complicated product stacks. Kingston has no less than six different SSD brands in its lineup. The E Series, M Series, SSDNow V 100, SSDNow V+ 100, SSDNow V+ 100E and SSDNow V+ 180. The E and M series are just rebranded Intel drives, these use Intel's X25-E and X25-M G2 controllers respectively with Kingston logo on the enclosure. The SSDNow V 100 is an update to the SSDNow V Series drives, both of which use the JMicron JMF618 controller. Don't get this confused with the 30GB SSDNow V Series Boot Drive which actually uses a Toshiba T6UG1XBG controller, also used in the SSDNow V+. Confused yet? It gets better.

How's SSD's lifespan?

I was reading statistics like
Total 4KB Random Writes (Drive Lifespan)
32GB: 1PB
64GB: 2PB

How does it compare to those normal hdds

As long as you decide to use it. Before it has the chance to say farewell, you already keep it in your cupboard and become an antique.

See if there is any components in your desktop/laptop that can last over 5 years and you have no plan to upgrade it.

Kingston SSD's IOPS is usually lower than other brands. But surprisingly, its score in heavy multitasking workload testing of AnandTech is dominant in the chart..

Isn't it highly related?

I have single SSDNow V+ and Vertex in Raid 0 and single disk. The single SSDNow V+ does not feel much slower than Vertex Raid 0. It is not as bad in the real world as the synthetic random write results suggest it might be.

None of my PCs are on Win7 so GC is important to me.

Kingston V+ are becoming really interesting pricewise now..if you are not a benchmark maniac they are a real feasible choice

I think it may boil down to how the firmware optimizes the drive. :)
