Turning on AHCI mode in Bios

Hi Bros,
I just got an SSD & installed new Wind 7 OS (full new installation). It appears to working fine.
I read that we have to turn on AHCI in the Bios to optimise the SATA II performance.
I am using a MSI P965 Neo MB which has Phoenix Award Bios.
However, I am unable to activate AHCI as it appears to be no part of the Bios that contains the Storage Configuration or anything else that allow me to switch from IDE to AHCI as discribed in some of the websites I read.
Can any Bros please help? My SATA II ports are ICH8 as stated in my user guide.

Can see if it is under integrated peripheral.

you need to activate AHCI before you install windows 7. else troublesome to convert. anyway, go check if you mb has ahci.

Hi Bro,
I checked the integrated peripheral & it does contain some options to change modes for IDE/RAID or PATA but no options to change SATA II ports to AHCI. Could this mean my MB does not have or support AHCI?

Hi Bro,
How to check if my MB has AHCI? I went into my Bios & can't find any manuel or options to change to AHCI mode

if you cannot find AHCI, then old mb. cannot help.

anyway, ahci has little effect for real-life apps. you can still use non-ACHI config. just make sure to reduce the write to ssd to prolong its life. install the free ssd-life.com to detect its lifespan. normally can last 9-11 years.

Do you see an option, "SATA Native mode"?

SATA Native Mode is not necessarily the same as AHCI. Native may mean Native IDE mode.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I/O_Controller_Hub, the first AHCI support for intel chipset was ICH6R and ICH6-M (i.e. regular ICH6 without the R and M don't have ACHI).

Just check which Intel controller your P965 MB has to find out if it supports AHCI, then update bios if necessary.

problem with buying other brands other than Intel, is no warranty. wonder whats the rate of dead on arrival

e warranty process with ocz was rather fuss free. most troublesome thing is to pack the item and ship it back to ocz in taiwan...

The OCZ Vertex 3 Review (120GB)
SandForce was first to announce and preview its 2011 SSD controller technology. We first talked about the controller late last year, got a sneak peak at its performance this year at CES and then just a couple of months ago brought you a performance preview based on pre-production hardware and firmware from OCZ. Although the Vertex 3 shipment target was originally scheduled for March, thanks to a lot of testing and four new firmware revisions since I previewed the drive, the officially release got pushed back to April.

What I have in my hands is retail 120GB Vertex 3 with what OCZ is calling its final, production worthy client firmware. The Vertex 3 Pro has been pushed back a bit as the controller/firmware still have to make it through more testing and validation.

I'll get to the 120GB Vertex 3 and how its performance differs from the 240GB drive we previewed not too long ago, but first there are a few somewhat-related issues I have to get off my chest.

Thinking of getting Vertex 2 80GB at PCT today. Any points to note? one thing is i already have 3 HDD. hopefully have enough cables to go around.
