hi guys can i ask you all what to do after installing OS into the SSD. Do you guys straight away trim it? prefetch it? or change the Sata IDE to ACHI, any tips before i plunged my SSD out into my rig, appreciate that alot. I am a noobie. thanks!

Anybody experience this before?

i have an intel X18M OEM , got no TRIM support so i upgrade the firmware to 1.7
the firmware update quit smoothly , but what happen afterwards is not a quite pleasing experience .

1. partition corrupted
2. format the drive
3. hard drive very slow , copying a 12MB file takes forever
4. trying to access disk management , have a hard time of locating the SSD
5. today the SSD cannot be detected , both in my mac and pc .
6. BIOS shows nothing
7. Intel SSD Firmware Updater shows nothing

confirm brick?

btw i'm using a 1.8" to 2.5" converter

I have just swap my HDD in my laptop to the SSD and to my horror, I was told by Sony Customer Service that I can't enable AHCI via BIOS as this has been disabled. I have used the intel provided software, Acronis, for this migration and so far, I have not found any major error. In addition, the bootup nor shutdown speed hasn't really improved. Does that mean that I will need to enable AHCI to enjoy the faster SSD? If yes, has anyone tried to change the AHCI when in Windows using this tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/61869-ahci-enable-windows-7-vista.html or this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976 ?

i has tested with intel 320 80gb that newly installed in my old dell inspiron 1420. The rest of read & write speed is quite comparable with their benchmark test except random read/write 4KB,which is 50% lower than the benchmark test. I think 10mb/s is not an acceptable performance right?
Anything I can do to increase the speed on this part?

Enable AHCI has little performance in real-life. Only let u feel good in benchmarking tests cos u pay so much for a small thing.

10Mbps is very slow. But u r using old mb, old os and old ram. maybe they are the bottlenecks in your system if u never run other programs during benchmarking.

actually how do you know that AHCI has little performance in real life for SSDs?
just curious to know where you got this from.

perhaps you can elaborate what sort of application will benefit from NCQ
