As I've mentioned in the thread, the "8MB Bug" is still NOT fixed after the August Firmware that was suppose to fix the bug. It might not happen to you, but if you get frequent BSODs (1 BSOD could wipe your entire drive) or hard reset often. I would avoid wait till they fix it or buy the 510 series SSDs which don't have the bug.

...

Crucial M4 for you?! :D

Large capacity SSD too expensive for now? Take a look at the OCZ Revodrive Hybrid. Raid like SSD speeds with 1TB of storage! ;)

Limited stocks available at Fuwell

This review conclusion sums up the usage scenario for the Revodrive Hybrid nicely :)

If you're the type of user who can get by with all of his or her commonly used apps installed on a mid-sized SSD, still have room to spare, along with a modern system with SATA III support, a standalone SSD paired to a hard drive for bulk storage would most likely be the ideal set up for peak performance. But for users who need more capacity and work with large files (video for example) regularly that will benefit from the RevoDrive Hybrid's extremely fast peak transfer speeds, a hybrid solution like this one would also be beneficial. Another example would be users who have large Outlook PST files or Steam gaming directories. My Steam folder as I write this is 122GB and my Outlook PST is approaching 2GB. With the RevoDrive Hybrid, all of that data can be stored on the device and as the most frequently accessed bits were cached to the SSD, it would offer SSD-like performance with plenty of capacity to spare on the HD. With a standalone SSD in the 100-128GB range, that Steam folder simply wouldn't fit on the drive along with an OS, etc, so it would be stuck completely on the HD. Of course you could always spring for a larger SSD, but then we get into the same price range as the RevoDrive Hybrid. And keep in mind, this thing can push upwards of a GB per second under ideal conditions and work in any system with a PCIe x4 slot. It would take two, fast SATA III SSDs running in RAID 0 to even approach those speeds.

SSD and HDD (how to set default drive)

Hi all,

I just built my newpc yest, and decided to get a SSD as well to try out.. so now my pc has both a SSD and a HDD. Windows 7 and MS Office is installed in my SSD. However, I have trouble setting my default drive to that of HDD. Everything I install or save down now goes direct into C drive. Can someone please advise how to set my D drive to be the default one? Thanks in advance!

During installation, most programs would allow u to choose the drive to install to.

Anyway, steps below
To change the registry, follow these steps:
1. Start Registry Editor by entering “Regedit” in the search All programs.
2. Locate the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
3. Right click on the value named ProgramFilesDir & change the default value C:\Program Files to the path you want to install all your programs in.
4. Click OK and Exit.

MyDigitalSSD 128GB mSATA SSD

Hi guys, since this is a SSD thread and there isn't much info on mSATA SSDs, I just want to share my recent purchase for my Lenovo X220 laptop.

Bought the MyDigitalSSD 128GB mSATA SSD from this website: http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/mydigitalssd-128gb-50mm-bullet-proof-msata-ssd/

Cost me US$209.99 and I saved on shipping because my cousin brought it back for me from the US.

No box and was only bubblewrapped. After unwrapping, I was amazed at the size of it. Just slightly bigger than 2 S$1 coins lined up. It uses a Phison controller (as seen in the photo).

Quick benchmark to compare it to the standard Hitachi 320GB 7200rpm HDD.

MyDigitalSSD 128GB mSATA SSD

Hitachi 320GB 7200rpm HDD

Do note that the SSD scores are not as high as others because the mSATA slot is only SATA2 and not SATA3.

Hope this helps anyone who is thinking of getting a mSATA SSD!

This is the score under Crystaldisk mark.

I have an Intel x25-m 160GB as my OS drive and another Intel 320 300GB as my Games install drive...

Thinking of getting a bigger OS drive. What's the recommendation now?
