Read an article that the NAND used is "slightly" difference. the one in 330 cannot support as much write cycles as the one in 520, hence the warranty of 3 yrs compared to 5 yrs for the Cherryville.

nowadays, 3 years is a long time. Who wants to keep a SSD for more than 3 years ? after 3 years, upgrade liao. By that time, the speed will be 9Gb/s. I don't think you would want to hold on to your $2xx investment for more than 3 years to keep to 6Gb/s when you can get 9Gb/s at a lower price and probably at twice the capacity of your current drive.
Nowadays, the strategy is buy cheap and upgrade after 2 years. It is a disposable world we live in these days. Don't think too far ahead, life is short, electronics gadget life is a lot shorter. Just pay, play and let go.

A long time ago, IBM build PCs to last for 10 years. Nobody keeps PC for more than 10 years, so that strategy did not work out so well for their PC division.

better not buy any 1st version controller. The firmware has yet to stabilize. You'll be spending your time troubleshooting or waiting for RMA, instead of running apps or even having BSOD. Not worth the trouble really.

I don't agree with this.

If you say computers, fair enough. But, wrt to purely storage device, my opinion differ.

More usable storage is always good. And a storage device that can last is always welcomed.

In fact, I'm still using my HDD that is more than 5 years old.

Also, even 10years later, I doubt any HDD can match SSD speed.

The SSD can always make its way into a 2.5" enclosure for a super fast, reliable and robust portable drive years later, should it not keep up with the PC.

Another thing is, the NAND gate for the 520 is likely higher grade than the 330. Whether using it for 3 years or 5 years, better quality and reliability is always welcomed.

Yes. e.g. Crucial M4 is using Synchronous NAND flash
Pyro is using Asynchronous NAND flash

Synchronous > Asynchronous.

1. I'm using an adata 120 gb ssd with a bootup of abt 30s, is this acceptable since i've read abt bootup of <10s even on a 120 gb ssd?
2. is there any way to shorten the bootup time?
3. how should i maintain the perf of my ssd other than keeping the storage capacity the highest possible? (i've seen posts discouraging the defragging of SSDs)

30s sounds about right for a desktop. 10s probably refers to laptops. I read from somewhere that desktops usually just boot slower compared to a laptop that is optimized to boot fast.

Bootup time can depend on alot of factors... Your motherboard (Some reportedly boot up slower than others), how many devices you have plugged in (the more the slower to boot), and how much startup programs you have to load.

Some motherboard manufacturers have "instant boot" programs or some kind of bypass function in the BIOS to help speed up boot times. However, if yours does not, then the only thing you can do is to reduce the number of programs loading up on start up.

Just don't defrag, minimize the writes you make to the SSD. That's all.

More likely is that because it is a previous gen Sandforce drive

Sandforce had been plagued with stability issues until their newest controller + latest firmware fix for that whole BSOD debacle.
