With the recent spike of purchases for Crucial M4 recently, just thought of sharing this.
My recently purchased Crucial M4 256GB was having some consistent freezes (about 30 seconds to 1 minute) when accessing large files (average of 2GB), connected via the eSATA port on a HP8440p notebook, on Windows 7 Professional x64. I tried both enclosure DeLock MultiPort (eSATA + USB 3.0) and the Seagate GoFlex eSATA adapter. Windows log shows an entry
"The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period."
Connection via USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 works ok and does not cause this error.
Anyway, this is how I solved it:
1. I updated the firmware to 000F (factory was 0309). Although not sure if this contributed to the fix. This was my first instinct.
2. I removed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver and reverted to Microsoft AHCI stock driver.
That's it.
