(Storage) SSD Discussion Thread

Thinking to purchase SSD to install my OS for a new PC.
Which is best between this 2 in term of speed, warranty etc.
Intel 520 Series 120GB SATA3 ~$198
Crucial 128GB M4 SSD SATA3 ~$175

I read some where there is a number of write cycle to these SSD. Is it correct?

Intel is always a better choice given the support or in case of RMA.But at this price, you can always get a 2TB disk. I test and use SSD. Think if you want to use it for OS only, then forget about it and time saving is not enough to justify for the cost. If you have large amount of data to work on every day. Then SSD is a good choice.

My intention is to install the OS and application in the SSD and my data will be in a bigger size HD.
Btw, after system setup inculding all the application software, can I ghost the SSD just like ghosting a normal HD in case future system failure so that I can restore without re-installing again? Thanks.

Judging by the amount of Ssds you bought overseas, you should know that bank will never charge the actual exchange rate right?

Just curious how you reach the amount of $280 sgd.

Exchange rate USD1 = S$1.28 and factor in shipping cost of USD8 but this can change.

I didn't see the Intel 320 120GB anywhere anymore, so I was quite excited when I saw someone mention it.

But yeah, if there's no Intel 320, my next alternative would be to get the Crucial M4 256GB. Thanks bro!

The Intel 320 is the older model, the current model is Intel 330. The only reason I need the 320 is because I was thinking of running RAID 0 with my current Intel 320.

Yes , you are correct ...it is UD$15 for Crucial .... I mixed up with Strontium shipping cost of US$8.

If the M4 is local set, then it is your personal preference of Marvell (M4) vs Sandforce (520) controller.

If the M4 is a imported set, then 520 have the advantage of "Intel International Warranty"

If based purely on benchmarks, 520 is faster than M4 in most tests.

Amazon now selling at $203, which converts to S$252 before shipping charges.

So around S$20 more for local warranty coverage, can be considered.
