Hi all, just simply curious about what everybody packs into their luggage for travels, and hoping to learn or find out something new and interesting items everyone else uses. Also, reason being i am trying to be minimalist type when travelling, so any ideas to replace or reduce the items i carry will greatly help!
Let me start off with some common items i usually bring overseas:
-mini flashlight
-gerber impromptu tactical pen
-chargers and cables for phone plus xiaomi powerbank
-one piece multitool like gerber shard
-goruck echo pocket pouch
-kleenex wet wipes
-either goruck echo 16L or the GR1 as my only bag

Usually just pack the essentials like

- powerbank
- charger, cables and travel adapter for smartphone.
- meds like panadol, flu tabs
- tissue travel packs
- pen

By the way.
How do you usually pack your clothes in your luggage?
Do you roll your clothes or stack them?
And how many of you actually use packing cubes and find them useful?

Ah ok.. Yah i use the eagle creek packing cube, but downside is tat if i pack a few shirts and shorts and underwear, it will get rather bulky despite me trying to roll up into small bundles inside the cube

You can use the torch function in your mobile phone to replace a mini-flashlight. Some powerbanks have so good LED, they are also flashlights unless you are getting those that can hang around your head to be hands-free.

I would bring a powerbank, but more to use the power to act as a fan, torch with my accessories. I would normally use a xiaomi MAx 2 when overseas. Put the sim card inside and act as hotspot phone for the whole family. The battery is 5200mah, can last for 1 whole day and has Quick Charge using USB C. Not a flashy phone, so will not attract much attention and even if robbed, it costs only S$200.

bring medicine. especially for runny nose, diarrhea and motion sickness.

bring jacket with hoodie for cold nights. bring umbrella

bring 2 X 750ml water bottles so that you can boil water in hotel and bring along with you. You do not want to be without water while hiking. 1.5 litres can last you from 7am to 7pm if you drink some other liquids at places that sell food for your lunch.

if I hike, bring a swiss utility knife. For protection against animals.

bring your charger and cable for your phone and of course bring your smartphone, with google map, google translate installed. Get a data sim.

bring a pack of wet tissues. Can act as toilet paper or sterilizer for cleaning your hands.

I own a marvelous pair of transition eyewear, so I recommend sunglasses. You never know when you cannot see because of the sunlight and you can get into an accident.

Lastly, I recommend you this mobile app called Packpoint. Input your destination, travel period and activity and it will recommend you a checklist of what to pack, based on the weather and your activity.

All clothes in luggage except 1 jacket in cabin bag. My cabin bag is those type with wheels, so I carry it around throughout the day.

I roll undershirts and underwear. I stack pants and shirts. For thick hoodies or jacket, I use vacuum bags to save space and if I do, I will bring the vacuum pump along too.

I use packing cubes for accessories and toiletries. Not really for clothes. I suppose packing cubes are good for T-shirts and undergarments but I seldom wear T-shirts overseas. However, if you are not a luggage person, but a travel backpack person, then I strongly recommend packing cubes for backpacks.

Its called everyday carry or edc, some things just cant do without. Tactical or not thats individual choice, for me i like it to be discreet but useful. U will be surprised how unprepared some people can be when travelling overseas.

How often do you use a flashlight? I’ve always needed a knife/bottle opener but haven’t had a need to take out my flashlight in years. Probably gonna remove it to shed some weight.

Usually just pack the essentials like

- powerbank
- charger, cables and travel adapter for smartphone.

I stack them in dry sacks. 1 for clean clothes and 1 for dirty. Super useful for hiking too.

Leisure wise:

- 2 dri-fit t-shirts (warm weather), 2 Uniqlo Heattech (cold weather) --> wash everyday and rotate
- 1 pair of shorts (for return flight)
- 2 undergarments --> wash everyday and rotate
- towel
- toothbrush
- toothpaste
- facial wash
- shampoo
- body wash
- N pairs of socks (N is the number of days I'm travelling as I'm prone to eczema, so I need fresh socks everyday)
- headlight/LED flashlight (if hiking, if no, won't bring)
- power bank
- 3-in-1 charging cable
- travel power adapter
- ballpoint pen
- laptop
- tablet
- camera
- phone
- packable backpack --> is my carry on as well as to put whatever souvenirs bought, if not, will pack into checked-in backpack
- plastic bag --> throw my dirty socks

Work wise, dri-fit tees will be replaced with proper work shirts. And will include long pants. And won't be just 2 pieces only (unless work trip is that short), because work travel subsistence is chui, so I avoid washing and ironing services.

All these fit in one laptop backpack. :D

From all the replies, kinda obvious that we have a young crowd here. No old folks who will bring comfort food like Maggi noodles LoL
